Hi everybody!

Will be heading to Japan in early Feb 2018 and will be based in Osaka for 5 days. For the 5 days, will be planning to do day trips to Kyoto and Nara. Would like to seek advice for my Kyoto day trip.

For the Kyoto part, planning to visit broadly:
Arashiyama bamboo grove
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

Is visiting both within a day too rush? Will probably leave Osaka at 9am and looking to be back at 7-8pm ish. Would prefer to not rush and take it slow.

Thanks all!

Just strictly 2 is okay esp for 在此一遊 photo.
The days are short there except during summers.

I hiked the Fushimi hill 2 weeks ago & it took 2 hours more with more photo takings.

I loitered for a few hours at the Arashiyama Hill / Park & the river for autumn leave photo shooting in another day.

Possible if you start early.

Arashiyama area you may still have time to visit some of the temples

Depends on how much u want to cover at each place.
I did both in a day before. Morning go hike fushimi inari, complete before noon then go arashiyama. For arashiyama, i only did the bamboo grove, bridge and scenic train. Didnt really visit the temples and shrines there

Yup! Thanks all for reply. Looking to visit the 2 tourist attraction as they are probably the most iconic landmark of Kyoto. Will save the others during a trip dedicated to Kansai region.

This trip is mostly Tokyo and a sneak peek into Kyoto and Osaka.

The distance is not too bad but Arashiyama has more to see for first timer esp cherry / autumn leaves. Use the valid passes .
No season fast in fast out okay.

Agree that if strictly this 2 is okay.

For Fushimi hill, the total duration, safe to estimate about 3.5-4hours, relax pace up and down, which is probably half a day.

then you head to Arashiyama, there are probably more attractions there, but there will not be that much time, probably more 在此一遊 which I agree with "Wood41".

I had been to both, and visiting again next week with my parents, I am planning both in 1 day too.

Ive done it before. Although if you dont go all the way to the top, fushimi inari doesnt require that long. Further up the gates became less sparse and honestly they look similar after a while.
I would rather spend more time in arashimaya where there's more to look at .
