Here is my little contribution on my trip to Kyoto and Osaka 2012.

25th Nov to 3rd Dec 2012

Day 00 - 25th Nov
Took Jetster from T1 Changi Airport at 10:40pm and landed on Kansai before 6am. The plane ride is like roller coaster as the turbulence every few minutes is causing me to be awake throughout the flight.

Arrived at Kansai Airport before 6am. Clear custom in 30 mins and took a limousine bus to Kyoto Station.
Rain deduce my visit to just one location.
Tokufuji Temple

Day 02 - 27th Nov

Eikando Temple
Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion)

Day 03 - 28th Nov

Kinkakuji
Daikakuji
Tenryuji

Sanzen-in Temple

Day 05 - 30 Nov (Nara)
Yoshikien Garden
Isuien Garden
Todaiji
Back to Kyoto and wonder around.

Day 06 - 1st Dec (Osaka)
Left for Osaka in the morning

Walk around Dotonbori area.

are you in a packaged tour? or just planned your way on those places?

It's my planned itiernary. Package tour will normally visit 1 or 2 temples and move on. Not much people are so crazy to visit so many temples. So I have to plan it myself.

No I don't speak any japanese. Get the train and subway map online. Just map out the places I will be going and with help of Google map, I just need to key in the place I will be going and follow it.
Japan-guide.com is a great help as it will also guide you on the train and bus to take.

Yes. I have map out where I will go on Day 1 till I return. Prepare 1-2 backup day as you will miss some destination due to time constrain or rain.
You can buy the data plan at Japan(many other threads on this in this forum) or go for data roaming.
I go for data roaming as I still need to receive calls too from oversea due to work.

Day 2 adventure begins

This is a day I may have walked 20-30km and thousands of steps up and down. I could not feel my leg at the end of the day.

Minoo Park is a beautiful place. The building along the route is better. If able to own a house there would be the best.

we chose to go to minoo park over USJ coz the weather was freaking cold 2 friday ago

my family have a thingy for waterfall

No. I don't buy any cards as I do not move much between cities. I just pay cash when getting on train or bus to get around the different places.
