Planning to go Kyushu as well in Nov 18. Been to Kyushu before in Spring 2014.

Skipping Kumamoto since the castle is damaged. Luckily been there before the earthquake almost destroyed it.

Since you're going on self drive, I would advise you to use google map to plan out your route and itenaries. Also, if i did not remember wrongly, you might need to take ferry from nagasaki to kumamoto and including a car in the ferry ride could be costly. I remember choosing public transport when travelling between fukuoka, nagasaki and kumamoto as it's too expensive to take ferry with the car. I've done self drive when exploring ulu areas like aso, oita and towards south.

If you're into scenic stuffs, i would recommend kikuchi valley. It's abt an hour drive from kumamoto city.

From your itenaries, it looks like u're using one place as base and venture from there. Actually with a car, you could just change your accommodation depending where you are at the end of that day. It'll save you alot of time. Also, unless you're at big city area, there's nothing to explore after 5/6pm. Most of the attraction closes at 5/6pm depending on season. You'll need to factor in opening/closing hours, traveling time and etc when doing your planning.
