I am planning a Kyushu only trip.

I did one 2004 and during that time, the advantage is to get the Kyushu Bus Pass.
However now that ShinKanSen has come to Kyushu, i am debating is it better to use the Bus pass or to use th Kyushu JR pass.

What do the Otaku think?

I guess japan-guide has summarized well for you:

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2357_014.html

"The Kyushu Rail Pass is the almost identical offer for trains in Kyushu. Depending on the individual itinerary, either pass could be more suitable. Unlike the Sun Q Pass, the Kyushu Rail Pass is not available to residents of Japan."

I used to remember in 2006 SUN Q bus pass offer coffee on the buses... very nice.

Not sure they still offer that or not.

Also, the bus are not crowded like rail too, it is clean and comfortable.

I've personally stopped using tocoo after all the additional surcharges and insurance they make you buy became compulsory.

Been renting direct from Times car rental for a few times now. Basic english and communication cards are there to help bridge the language barrier. Although for some strange reason they still swipe my credit cards rather than use the chips for certain outlets. So activate your magnetic strips!

Thank you so much for all the advices. I have been searching around and realised that the rates on Tocoo are all significantly cheaper than those rates offered direct from the rental company. So I am very confused on which rental company to go for.

Just bought Kyushu 108 temples pilgrimage guidebook from Amazon JP.

I plan to have another long tough walk 2200 km in 70 - 80 days.

Last Done, 2nd round on my bloody foot of 1200km Ohenro Shikoku and 200km Shodoshima mini 88.

:D
