Currently have 3200g with no GPU.

When i do the edit, the task manager show CPU 100% when and it's lagging.

Should i upgrade my 3200g to 2600 or 3600?
Or
Should i buy a used GPU like rx570 or rx470?

either way still have to buy gpu, since 2600/3600 no integrated gpu. just buy gpu first, then see if still lagging. i wouldnt recommend 3200g for any use heavy use case, 4c/4t on 12nm is just too underpowered.

Video editing is cpu reliant. More cores and threads is better. And also ram plays a part.

And because you are using onboard GPU, it strains on the 3200g, get adedicated gpu.

What NLE are you using?

What timeline settings?

What codecs are you working with?

What type of edits do you normally do?

I agree with these guys. You will need to upgrade both to have a great experience.

Give priority to CPU, gpu just buy a cheap second hand <$50 one can alr. If you're using 8gb ram I definitely recommend upgrading to 16gb also.

would you recommend 2600 or 3300x?
Feels budget a bit tight for 3600

You can try buy getting a 2nd hand GTX 1070 8GB from Carousell and try it out first. Then you may upgrade the CPU later.

I would go on 32GB RAM and high speed SSD or NVME if video editing.... GPU is also good and helpful.

Yes as and when doing video editing, will need it...

But when i press preview, it lags. so cannot take it...

Preview and 4K videos will lag even on Mac. But, generally its silky smooth on osx, suspect it's better optimised for the tasks.

That's one of the reason, i still keep my mac even after acquiring Ryzen 3900 and a i9 :s13:

You didn't answer xdragon's questions. Are you working with 4k h264 on a 4k timeline? ppro? multicam? vfx? plugins?

If you're referring specifically only to timeline playback/preview, I think Hardware-accelerated Decoding could be what you're looking at:

Like Hardware-accelerated Encoding, Adobe Premiere Pro also supports Hardware-accelerated Decoding to provide better playback performance while working with the H.264/AVC, HEVC media in the timeline.

https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/gpu-acceleration-and-hardware-encoding.html

So a general suggestion is to get the latest ppro update + look into getting a GPU that supports H.264/H.265 decoding.

For the Hardware Encoding to work, ensure that you have NVENC supporting NVIDIA GPU or AMD VCE/VCN supporting AMD GPU.

Refer to this link to check if your NVIDIA GPU supports H.264/H.265 encoding.

https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix

Please, note that a few of the Pascal, Maxwell and Kepler series NVIDIA GPUs don't support the H.264/H.265 encoding. NVIDIA GPU based Hardware Encoding won't be available on these GPUs.
Though, if you have an Intel CPU with Quick Sync support, then that can be used for Hardware Encoding (but it might not be as fast as NVIDIA based encoding).

To check for AMD GPUs that support H.264/H.265 encoding, please refer to this link.
