LAMP on which linux works best?

Running win 8.1 as my main os and i do not want to install WAMP in it. I'm looking to run linux using virtualbox and setup LAMP for my local wordpress sandbox before pushing to live host. I understand the user access and configuration is sometime a pain in the S. anyone to recommend a linux to me? ubuntu? lubuntu? mint?

If you want the last resources requirement, use a server-class linux distro, not the desktop version.

Ubuntu and Centos/RHEL is fine as along as you know how to work within them. Mostly the things are same except each distro will have their own way to organise things. Like Redhat Apache Webserver installation tend to lump things together, Debian based like Ubuntu separate them into enabled and available directories and using symbolic links to put things together. These are mostly configurational differences, but in terms of performance, they are very similar, probably some having more up to date packages and hence slightly different performances.

Depends on platform. On MAC OS X, I use parallels desktop. On windows, I use VMware workstation. I also use AWS for my development and testing at times.

icic... i used vmware back in my sch days but its not free so i opted for virtualbox.
