My current workstation/server is much more powerful then my laptop. I am thinking of using my laptop to remote desktop into the workstation. How practical is this? Anyone who use a similar setup care to feedback?

I have a pc running freenas. I am thinking of installing a windows or Linux VM and have my laptop remote into it instead of running Linux or windows directly on my laptop

Sure why not. Always did that for my work. All my projects servers are powerful machines that can do a lot more than my laptop. Personally I have ran 4x 32cores Windows servers in the cloud for distributed works that I know wouldn’t fit into my laptop. Why do you need everything to run in a single machine when you can have much more powerful and resources mostly limited by how much you can afford :)
