I have a Razer Blade Stealth 12.5" 4K Touchscreen Ultrabook (2016 model), with a defective display. I've attached the pictures below. Unfortunately, the warranty expired just a week ago.

Razer support told me that is a hardware issue and a RMA would cost around $75 + another $300-400. Is it worth it to go ahead with the RMA? Or would an external repair be cheaper?

Or would I be better off buying a new one? Can anyone recommend one that has good value for money.

I use it mainly for analytics stuff Excel VBA, python, R-studio, Tableau etc.

Would SLS repairs be significantly cheaper?
I asked some laptop repair shops from the mall and they estimated that it would be around 400-500. They said the entire top panel needs to be replaced because that's how Razer laptops are.

The manufacturer will probably give you a 3-month warranty (less than one year, anywhere) after fixing, so:

Go ahead with the RMA if:
* The specs are still top-notch
* You are not looking for an upgrade at this time

Buy new one if:
* You have other uses for the old laptop (e.g. plug into TV for entertainment)

For your peace of mind, RMA it.

Costs quoted at SLS are ball park figures. Being a relatively rare model to be fixed (Similar to Surface pros being fixed at SLS) it is a shot in the dark to find a good repairer who will not ding up your Razer blade trying to get into it.

The 4K Panel itself would be hard to find and costs near to or just as much to procure - let alone the grade factor of the panel that was procured.

Alternatively deskbound and connect it to an external monitor.

If you don't need the mobility, just hook it up to a monitor. The 4K monitor is not going to be cheap to replace, not to mention that it is a touchscreen.
