Is there any major Linux distribution that is designed for laptop/notebook, which gives a good out-of-the-box experience without having to install those power management software and popular media codec separately? E.g. TLP and MP3/MP4/H.263/H.264

I understand most Linux distributions are still focused on desktop PCs and power management is not pre-installed by default. What is Ubuntu and Linux Mint status with regard to these software, may I know?

Thanks for any suggestion.

You planning to use an existing laptop with Linux or planning to buy a laptop and install Linux on it?

Linux mint are base from Ubuntu.
They have a more friendly desktop. Quite easy to use. However if your run their updates, always hit a snag.

Linux are like just a handful of sands, too many distribution. Not united.
Just use as it. The learning curve is quite steep and not for the ordinary ppl.

I would suggest Linux mint too.. Recently got a laptop purely for running linux. Lenovo thinkpad. Installed Mint on it all work without issues including the fingerprint reader and EMV card reader. Runs smooth without issues.Battery check, wifi, bluetooth all work out of box.

Had to install packages for the fingerprint and EMV card reader.

This laptop is not running dual boot. Linux is the main and only OS. My friend runs Ubuntu on his Dell XPS and Macbookpro. All as main primary OS without any dual boot.
