Hi.

I am currently on the lookout for a laptop that is able to do video production.

What i want:

1. Price is not an issue but the cheaper the better.
2. Light weight <2kg. The lighter the better coz i might need to use it everyday in school.
3. 13-14 inch screen only. At least 1080p. Dun need 4k
4. Able to use PREMIER PRO and all ADOBE APPS. I believed most ADOBE apps are GPU accelerated, so;
5. GPU would be better.
6. Long battery life
7. I dun mind MAC or PC as i currently using both.
8. SD slot is a must

what i think suits me:
1. Razer 14 inch

Will something like an ultrabook works? I really need something light. And i know good packages never comes in handy...

Specifications wise, an ultrabook works.

Just try not to go for the fanless designs as it dissipates heat passively - which over time may reduce the life span of your laptop (due to heat) and possibly thermal throttle (< in performance due to high temps to < heat) - resulting in possible lags.

Do check this video out on 4K video editing on an ultra book, i think it would be of relevance to you :)

I have done a bit of research. Planned to go with mobile workstation like the Dell Precision Series/Lenovo ThinkPad P Series or even the HP ZBook Series. Unfortunately, the price are a bit too high and weighs quite heavy.

Currently, my eyes are on the Lenovo Ideapad 710s PLUS which does have a dedicated GPU, very lightweight and quite new in the market. The package cost around SGD2000

Don't forget Dell's XPS series as well!

If weight is not a concern then an alternative to workstations could be gaming laptops with dedicated GTX series GPUs such as Aftershocks could work as well.

Had a chance to play around with a Zbook at work for a couple of days .. it was a slab of concrete. :s22: - but one that gives confidence and reliability

Weight is a concern for me unfortunately.

I do notice and quite interested with the XPS line. But the price point is a bit too expensive. Its like paying more for the premium design.

ZBook is the workstation line. So it should be very tough.

I have now widen my choice to:

1. Lenovo IdeaPad 710S Plus - $1800 (AFT Student Disc)
-i7
-Nvidia GT 940MX
-Long battery life
-1.1kg

2. Lenovo ThinkPad P40 Yoga - $2200 (AFT Student Disc)
-i7
-Nvidia Quadro M500M
-8hrs battery
-1.8kg

3. Lenovo ThinkPad T460 (not T460S) - $2200 (AFT Student Disc)
-i7
-Nvidia GT940MX
-Removable battery
-1.7kg

I might seem bias to only Lenovo line. But i have never tried Lenovo products b4. And also i find that the specs that i wanted and and the price point are acceptable compared to other brand.

I have yet to try HP's laptop but I have lost trust in thier products. Prvsly, I used thier printers. Since young it was problematic. We changed to Canon which lasted 5 yrs. 2 yrs ago, we got HP printer back just to give it a try again(who knows they improve?). After months of use, breakdown and replace. Replacement unit also breakdown after months and cannot change. Now, Im using my old Canon which is already 5 yrs old....
