Thanks for the advise!

May I know how much it cost to upgrade from 4GB to 12GB?
Any Idea?

i would say 12GB is an overkill for an entry-level mid-range ultrabook like Asus S400CA
plus, the motherboard for this model can only allow up to 8GB ram (2GB/4GB soldered onboard RAM + 1 spare DIMM ram slot)

unless you wanna OC so that the motherboard can accept 12GB but you will risk "frying" the motherboard

if you intend to use this laptop to do intensive PS editing, then I will recommend you to go for performance range laptops like MBP/Alienware/Aftershock/MSI

Yeah, 12GB ram is overkill anyway :)

The rule of thumb is anything above 8GB has diminishing performance returns ~

For photoshop editing, I personally feel that getting a laptop with a decent GPU will be better.

exactly...
take my Asus EEE 1215B netbook. This model has two ram slots which allow me to go up to 8GB. Getting all hot-blooded and exciting :s12: I bought 2 x 4GB Kingston DDR3 1600Mhz ram and installed both.
after using it for about 2 weeks with gaming, PS-ing, HD video viewing etc. I realized that I only need 1 x 4GB ram, because the machine nv really touch the 2nd 4GB at all.
but i was lazy to take the other one out. so I just leave it inside, in case one of them fail or spoil, at least the 2nd one can kick in immediately.

Agree that 12GB is overkill. 8GB should be good enough. But there is some wrong info here for S400. S400 is with 4GB soldered onboard, 1 RAM slot free which supports up to 8GB. Thus total RAM is 12GB.

Overclocking (OC) does not affect the capabilities of the motherboard to support more RAM. It only increases the RAM speed to match the motherboard bus speed so that you can have faster frequency for data transfer. :)
