Hi, I would really appreciate some help and recommendations. Have had FSX since 2006 but never owned a computer that was spec'd to run it.

I would like something slim and light as possible. I travel a lot for work so anything that is heavy and bulky is out of the question. Size isn't too much of a problem, would be okay with anything between 15-17". My budget is maxed out at 2500, but of course, the lower the better.

I would like to run FSX with as high graphics as possible, with add-ons like REX, PMDG & etc.
It'll also be used for movies and the regular stuff.

From what I looked up, FSX uses up more CPU than GPU, don't know how true. I've gathered all this information just from some reading up. So from what I gathered, I guess I would like an i7-4700? HQ/MQ? Could anyone explain the difference? Upgradable on non-upgradable? As for graphics, GeForce GTX765M? Do I want to of for the GTX instead of the GT? I would also like primary SSD and a secondary HDD. Is there anything else that I should know or look out for?

I am very new at this, but I would like to get something that would be able to last for some time at the very least, thus the decent budget (I feel). Don't really want to spend too much just for FSX.

I am considering the MSI GS70 Stealth, Acer Aspire V3... Any pointers, suggestions, recommendations is greatly appreciated. I understand there is an IT SHOW 21-23FEB at EXPO & 28-2MAR at MBS. I don't want to be pressured to make an impulsive purchase from crowds and gimmicky freebies. Is it still worth a look anyhow?

Finally, I've read about stuff not working on MSI, the keyboard lights and all, this is the only setback, I feel of getting a laptop from a slightly younger company. I would really like to not have to go through the trouble of having to take it back for menial faults.

Hear from you guys soon!

From what i can see, people were saying its cpu heavy 4 years ago. Cpu technology has come far. A duo core should run it just fine. I don't think you need something like the gtx 765m. A dell vostro 5470 is light and has a gt 740m.

Well the difference between a hq and mq is that the hq version is soldered to the motherboard while the mq version is removable from the motherboard. I would advice you to get a gtx rather than a gt as I belive that you won't be playing ONLY FSX in the near future. You should probably go check out the IT expo and see what deals are there. :)

hohoho, a fellow enthusiast!

It is true that FSX taxes more on the CPU than on the GPU itself, and is definitely evident on my friend's laptop (i7-3630MQ/GTX680M/8GB) that it can't pull beyond 25FPS when flying the Airbus X into places like Dubai from Flytampa, on ultra high. All these without other addons such as REX yet.

As such, FSX would generally be better on a desktop than on a laptop due to cooling issues and the more powerful processors available as well as overclocking options available(FSX optimum is at least 3GHz and runs best beyond 4GHz).

However, if a laptop is your only available option, I would advice you to get Aftershock's XG15 instead. You would be able to get a better processor (i.e. the 4800MQ) for the game's CPU demand. In case you wish to switch to P3D/X10 in the future, the GTX765M would come in handy too. it will fit within your budget of 2.5k if you choose your upgrades wisely.;)

Get it during the upcoming IT Show at MBS for aftershock will be there.

no kidding, the max i can pull in is only 37fps on fsx, but the comp is good enough to pull in almost 180fps on BF4 on max settings :s22:

many say due to the game's age and backdated technology coupled with bugs, was the reason for such poor performance. heck the game didn't even support multicore processors until the SP2 1-2years later. :s13:

and such was the reason why i still stuck with the predecessor of FSX.:s22:

TS, amongst all the high end laptops, I'd eliminate the ones which would potentially get heat issues. Because when throttle kicks, the FPS drops.

Guys, thanks again for all your feedback and advice.16

I'm really leaning towards the MSI Stealth GS70. What are your thoughts on that? It seems like the specs are identical, if not better than the aftershock XG15. And the fact that it's light and super slim is a major selling point for me.

However, the XG15 has an optical drive which would save me some trouble. It is slightly cheaper than the MSI. And it wouldn't be such a behemoth of a laptop to carry around all the time.

Should I consider any of the other makes and models out there? I don't think i should settle for less and end up regretting at a later time.

Also, the Toshiba Qosmio X75 seems to check the right boxes, i7-4700MQ, GTX 770M 3GB, 16GB DDR3 RAM, SSD & HDD... What do you guys think?

Well I think that the aftershock XG15 is more ideal compared to the GS70 which does not allow you to change the cpu to run FSX. How often are you going to be bringing your laptop out is the main question for getting the GS70. If your answer is yes, then go for the GS70!:)

I would still stand my ground on the XG15, reason being there is an option for a better processor(i7-4800MQ) which may come in helpful for FSX. Also, Aftershock also gives you an option for Windows 7. In case you haven heard on the other flightsim forums, there are compatibility issues with FSX and Windows 8.

I wouldn't even give toshiba a chance to be considered, for their really terrible after service.

The GTX 765M will definitely suffice for many games, and will only lag behind the 770M by less than 20% in most cases.
