Hi guys,

Apologies if this is not the correct sub forum to post but my laptop is having some problems.

I am unable to boot to windows 8, not even the login page. It stuck at the windows icon loading screen, with the words 'preparing automatic repair', it then goes into a black screen and hangs there like forever.
I tried using the windows 8 disc to attempt to repair using the troubleshoot tools but the 'repair your computer' option do not work. When I clicked it, it goes into a page with blue background and it stays there forever. I then tried to attempt to do a clean installation, but after I clicked 'install now', it goes into a page with the words 'setup is starting' and it hangs there. The cursor shows a loading cursor.

I thought the windows 8 disc is spoiled and I then test it on another computer. Turns out, it is working fine. Now I'm not sure what to do and would gladly seek fellow hardwarezone users' advice. Thank you in advance.

most likely your HDD spoil liao.
remove your laptop HDD and mount it on desktop and go perform bad sector scan.

Hey thanks. I understand that the hard disk sizes for desktop and laptop are different. Do I just plug it into the slot? Or can I put the hard disk into a USB hard disk enclosure and plug it into a working computer, to perform bad sector scan?

Desktop 3.5 inches
Laptop 2.5 inches
But both uses same SATA Connector.
So no issues.

And yes you can put the hard disk into a USB hard disk enclosure and plug it into a working computer, to perform bad sector scan too.

Do download HDTune and go run full scan and let it run over night.

I ran HDTune overnight and there was no bad sector reported. What should I do now? I am able to access my files without problem. Just the boot issue and the disc issue as mentioned.

Format your HDD and try reinstalling OS again.
Could be your HDD bad sectors have already been allocated and closed.
