Laptop without DVD rom

Is it convenient to get a laptop without DVD rom? What about reformat? Have to buy external DVD rom?

There are 2 ways out for laptop without DVD-Rom:
1. buy USB DVD-Rom
2. use thumb drive to do Windows setup

have been using without any ROM drive for past 4 years. other than watching DVD or Blu-ray, there isn't much use nowadays.

Software installers all come in digital download form.
reformat - can use USB thumbdrive to setup windows OS, do repairs, cloning, etc.
back-up - nowadays not much ppl burn DVD or Blu-ray.. most use USB harddisk or Cloud.

If needed, just buy external USB 3.0 DVD-Writer or Blu-ray writer drive.

I quote my dad: "Who still got use disc. Now not all use Thumbdrive or the cloud thing alr meh?"

How to use USB to setup Windows or format?

I still live in floppy disk world.
