Am in my mid 20s and degree should be 450 or 600, forgot already, but have stabilised for at least 3-5 years with no change, hence don't remember.

Why you want to do so extreme and expensive procedure? You got consider the new type of flapless lasik yet?

Your degree range should be suitable for those type of corrective contacts worn during sleep, then take off in day to enjoy perfect vision.

ICL has different risks compared with LASIK. Plus is more expensive. So generally is best used for those who have very high spectacle degree or who have thin/weak corneas. But for these latter people, ICL would give great vision and minimal halos.

the LT risks are not really known yet cos it's a relatively new procedure. but it's just more invasive

that said, i think it's new, so i think the doctors dont really dare to anyhow do anything yet.

it's not v popular cos it's new and expensive

I did an ICL with eagle eye DR Julien Theng in 2012 and he gave me perfect eyesight.

I had high astigatism and thin corneas, average myopia.
My expectations were high cos of his reputation and the price i paid but its worth it every cent.

I cannot comment on the other docs but i went with Julien Theng cos of his reputation.

Hmm, the lens is custom to fit your eyes.
I spent slightly over 8k including op, follow up consultations, eye drops, medicine.

You will see doc 1day, 1week, 1month, 6months, 1 year after op.
Basically you will see doc your lifetime.
If your progress is good, you will see him every 1.5years.

After op, you will have a splitting headache, eyes sensitive to light.
I did op in afternoon and went home in cab.
Took many panadols and went to sleep.

Headache cos eyes and brain need time to adjust to the ICL.
ICL does not cut your cornea, is reversible process.
Can always take out the lens and wear spec.

Do not swim or jog after op.
I stayed away from these activities few months.
I did the op during leave and went for reservist (3 weeks) so basically i did not stress my eyes in front of PC for quite some time.

You will go for 2 ops.
1 op to laser a hole in your eye for the ICL and wait few weeks.
actual op the doc will insert the ICL in and ICL will unfold over the eye.
Its fast and painless.


Follow the eyedrops and medicine prescription regularly till doc takes you off them. You will see halos at night but be patient.
Mine cleared up in a month.
dry eyes i didnt have.
I just basically followed the doc advice diligently to use the eyedrops.

i went with dr theng cos of his reputation- "he made someone blind see".
I am aware of the other docs in the market.

ok initially i wanted to do lasik at SNEC but my corneas were too thin (480) so the SNEC doc refused to do it for me and suggested ICL.
He told me he could not do it 3 weeks later, ICL is not their speciality.

So i went to find my doc.
Ok, i maybe be biased but aesthetic surgery, i feel that pte docs are better.
This is my experience with them.

my left eye is like 400 degrees, right eye 500 degrees.
Astigmatism like somewhere below there.

Oh never rub your eyes please.
If feel itchy or tired, please wash them.
I do it now after my ICL.

Remember you have ICL in your eyes.
So dont rub your eyes.

last time when i was younger, i used to close and rub my eyes clockwise and anticlockwise till i see phosphene.

It feel a sense of relief but i never do it now cos of my ICL.
ICL gave me new life.
ICL is better than lasik as shown in studies, i just dont want my corneas cut.


Though i never did lasik, ICL has given me what i wanted and perfect eyesight with no astigmatism. I dont mind paying much more cos its my eyes.

Those worn to sleep are orthokeratology lenses (rigid gas permeable lenses).

The risks with ICL have to do with problems in the eye-rare, but things like cataract and eye pressure rises.

To add on from bbbbbw, nowadays for ICL no need to laser hole in eye anymore. There is a built in hole in the new ICL model for fluid flow. So after assessment, once the lens arrives, just book date for surgery and go for it!

I just completed by 6months post op review, and my vision is overcorrected by 75deg, with 100deg astig in my right eye. sounds awful, but it's not so bad. my other eye can help: left eye is at 25 degrees, with about 50 deg astig.

all in all, not too bad, but not perfect. but of course, after spending $3500+, i wanted perfect vision.

this time, the doctor didn't recommend corrective epilasik surgery because of the painful healing process. Chances of better vision was 90%. Or put a different way, chances of WORSE vision was 10%. he had more confidence if i did the normal lasik - but i would have to pay $400 more for the procedure. Kindly note that while enhancement surgery may be covered, follow up checkup and eyedrops may not be covered.

thus my choices are:
enhancement epilasik: $500 (for 5 checkups)
enhancement bladeless normal lasik: $700 ($400 top up + 3 check ups)

I've decided to sit on it (since I technically have 2.5 more years to decide). there's really a lack of this info online! i wonder why not more people discuss it. maybe i am part of the 0.XXX% who experienced it? Anyway, if you're deciding, do read all literature carefully. Here are the FAQs from Eagle Eye Lasik, and the stuff that isn't really said. As a part-time copywriter, i can totally imagine myself framing this information for work....

Disclaimer: I'm not upset, don't get me wrong. I love going around without glasses, and that my operation technically went okay - no infections, etc. I'm just not impressed by how clinics tend to oversell the service, and understate the possible side effects. Lasik (like IPL) won't remove all your imperfections completely.

4. What are the side effects? Will I go blind if it goes wrong?
• Common side effects are dry eyes, light sensitivity, glare and halos during the first few weeks, but most of these side effects will subside over time.
• Blindness could occur only if a serious complication such as infection or scarring occurs. But this is very rare as antibiotic eye drops are prescribed as a routine to prevent such infections or scarring from occurring.
• EEC's staff and doctors are highly trained and experienced in LASIK surgery, therefore you will be in very safe hands and even if the worst case of infection occurs, EEC is backed with one of the most experienced cornea surgeon who can treat the patient "Free" to regain eyesight.
- This answer shows that sometimes the side effects won't subside. Please be prepared. My colleague did his, and even 1 year after surgery, he was dripping eyedrops into his eyes like an addict.
-"Free" is not defined.

12. Will my eyes be permanently weakened after the procedure?
• No, LASIK does not weaken your eyes significantly.
• A flap will be present after LASIK is done. But in both LASIK and EpiLASIK, the cornea is thinned down to a safe limit such that long term risks are almost impossible.
"Significantly" - please be aware that your eyes will probably be weakened a little. To date, I need to be careful when opening my eyes in the morning. Not a big thing, but it is still irritating.
"Almost Impossible" - but still possible.

15. How long will the correction last?
• Laser vision correction is permanent. There might be fluctuations in vision in the first 3 to 6 months while the eye is healing but thereafter, the result will be permanent.

don't forget your "老花眼" - an older colleague of mine did it. and got lao hua yan shortly after.
also, my friend did her 10months ago, and this year, she realized that her vision had become blurry.....

My girlfriend went for ICL and after that felt nausea and giddy and vomit more than 10 times. Went to A&E in the middle of night and not sure why the doc didnt think its necessary to call the eye doc to come down and check.

I actually did almost one year of research and contemplation before going for my Lasik surgery.. Lasik is still the gold standard as it is a 20+ year old technology that has gone through many advancements and improvements. Although, I have seen reports that SMILE might be better if you have a high degree of myopia or/ and astig.
