omg, I went to the first page and saw my first few post asking about lasik and now I am helping to answer those questions. since 2009, time has really passed and it still feels like a miracle to be able to "see" again



maybe I took longer than usual

better to be safe than sorry, as for diving the cornea or scars must fully heal, if not the pressure can force it open, which is a scary thought



attend the open forum or "roadshow", not sure if they still do it

I am sorry, which part/post did I mentioned that I had side effects?

anyway, at this moment i do not have any side effects. a short period after the surgery you might have some temporary side effects. as for the later stages when I grow old, Dr Lee said there might be some side effects. hopefully I do not have them

Those who experienced any of these after lasik as compared to the time when you wear spectacle?

- Halos and glows from light source.

- Blurry/hazy vision depending on the lighting. Night vision or indoor vision affected. Not as clear as wearing spec.

- Focusing issue - takes longer time to focus as compared to wearing spec.

Heard from Doc that may take up to 6 months for these symptoms to go.

How long did it took for you?

Did it really helped to resolve halos and low lighting issues?

Nope. Did the wavefront lasik 2003 with Jerry.
Still have halo/star, mostly from car lights and street lights.
I guess anything that has halogen lights, will glare/halo/star. Most other light source is normal before and after.
Could be I'm getting old too...........

How long did it took for you?

Halo/star/glare. Yes.
Blur/hazy vision. No.
Focusing. Same as before.
My full recovery was closer to 8-10 mths. Meaning I can touch my eyes without vision blur, no more dry/itchy, no more sensitivity, no more have to worry, can start to rub eyes when dirt get in, no more eye drops, vision has completely stable and no more vision fluctuation.

If I could do it all over again.
I would choose the latest contact lens implant technology.
They are replaceable, even if your power change over time.
What ever eye condition, glare/halo/star, you have before, will be still same after. As your eye shape is still the same.
Your eye shape does not affect the implant as much, it's under the eye cornea.
They cover high power and high asti, also low power and low asti. No problem.
If all else fail and you not happy, you can have them removed.

I'm just not sure how popular they are in SG. They are more popular state side.

Just my 2 cents, been lasik for 10 years.

for the 1 week where water cannot enter the eyes...

how do u all wash your hair and face?

For face, use a wet towel.
For hair, I just wash very slowly and with lower water pressure to prevent splashing.
I also switch to J&J baby soap and shampoo.

At night, I put on the safety cover, or what every protector they give you.

Take no chances!!!

For those who are considering, here is a quick break down:

If you are in you 20s/30s, Just Do It.
I can't recall all those fun times enough. Snow boarding, snorkeling, and endless activities that I do not have to worry about my glasses/contacts.
Get some recommendations for the best doc in town and get it done.
Eye problems like cataract or whatever are still decades down the road for you.
Why worry now? 30/40 years down, the new generation of medicine can resolve these issues.

If you are 40s/50s++, please consider:
You will be bi-focal soon, if not already. And need reading glasses.
Have a full eye exam, including the retina, the lens, and whatever.
As you age, the eye degrades also. So better cover those issue before go opt.

Always wear sunglasses. Can't over state that.
Even those $19 sun glasses from the gas station are better than nothing.

actually i did mine with Dr Lee at shinagawa. last check was 6/4.5 which i heard is better than normal vision.

but my concern is how long for the halos, and blurry feeling to go away in those indoor lighting environment or night time. walking in shopping centers, down the street at night, in mrt stations, foodcourt... it's like dreamland with ghosting images.

then i saw that info on Jerry Tan's website about the treatment of post lasik night vision problems.

Anyone who did that?

It's not suffer.
The usual 1-3 mths of vision fluctuation.
Than 4-8 mths of "worrying less" and acting like it is totally normal like before opt. Of cuz, some times if I bump my eyes, during that period, I still freak out! haha.

It's not suffer, just physical and mental recovery for me is total 8-10 mths.

Regarding the halo/glare/star issue, it was a little bad for me, I can say it would fluctuate a lot the first 1-6 mths. Sometimes if I sleep on the side and bump my eyes, I will wake up in the morning and have blur vision and all halo!! haha... I just learn to never touch my eyes during those times.
This may be a temp problem or a life long thing like me. Also you will slowly not think about it and it becomes normal. Right now, you must be like me back then, worry about so many things. It's not a deal breaker for me, the years of independence more than made up for it!

For me, the halo/star part is worst with spot lights, and during outdoor. Indoor wise, almost never a problem.

My night vision is almost the same before and after, even till today.

Don't worry about the power. whatever 6/5, 6/whatever...
You will have regression. Almost all patients will have it.
Mine is +0.50 and -0.70. So I'm actually both farsighted and nearsighted! lol...
Nowadays for long period of computer and reading, I still wear glasses.

Don't worry so much about the halo/star problem.
If you did the opt recently, it will take 1-3 mths for the eyes to stabilize.
And another up to 6 mths after that for you to "mentally" return to normal.
For me, some of the halo/star remained and that's what I lived with all along.
Never a major issue.
If you watch TV and you have halo/star/glare, than you better go have it checked again.

I did mine some 10 years ago, and Jerry was the best at that time.
Back than, it was either Jerry or the eye center.
Today you have more choices. So shop around.

Just re-read your post.

For your blurry and ghosting and walking and feeling blur, please have it check out.
I did not have any motion/eye problems.
I remember I even went eat steam boat at marina bay a week after and was perfectly fine.

Also do not touch, bump or add pressure to the eye, as the flap has to recover for the 1st week. I did not dare touch my eyes for the 8-10 mth period. Call me kiasu!

@gabong: to be honest, I would also choose the latest technology over the one that I did, but like you've said, technology will improve and perhaps another corrective surgery method will be found, so it will never end.

My experience:

Bladeless Lasik done 3-4 weeks ago at Eagle Eye Centre (Mt Alvernia) www.eagleeyecentre.com.sg
Took only abt 5mins per eye, done both together.

Comparing my experience with Gamerz's blog:
-I dont have to "move" to another operating room/chair. All the surgery (flap and laser) was done on the same chair, and due to that, only take abt 5mins. On average, takes only abt 15mins for the entire procedure.

-my costs is abt $3.2k total (after referral discount, if need referral can pm me) I dont have to pay extra for the medicine, protective glasses, etc all included in, but have to pay for subsequent follow-ups (not a lot la, abt $30 each time)

-doctor/nurses all very professional and will answer all ur queries, even got 24hr hotline to call

- will def recommend anyone to go.

- Blurry/hazy vision depending on the lighting. (sometimes due to eye too dry, night vision not as good also, due to halos/glows)
- Focusing issue - takes longer time to focus (experience this as well, esp when switching from far object to very close object, not very significant, but more so when eyes are tired)
