Hi there,

I heard theres a directive in the GOM that states NSFs are not allowed to do LASIK surgery. Is this true?

I am a clerk right now and do not mind using my leave to cover the period of recovery after my surgery.

I don't know exactly if there is a directive or GOM saying that. But I heard that you gotta seek MO approval before you can undergo LASIK surgery.

Maybe if you want, you can go see MO and also talk to your boss about it?

usually for NS men which are combat fit, you wont be allowed unless there is a real need for you to correct you eyesight for a purpose, if not its a chargeable offense to undergo surgery without consent.

But since your a clerk, its a possible :D

So the right and proper route for me to pursue would be to discuss this and seek approval with my superior as well as the MO in my camp?

Superior will only allow after MO ascertain that is a MEDICALLY required procedure that u really see no bird then they will approve. Because lasik is consider the cosmetic procedure there is 0 subsidy unless you are a pilot shortlisted for selection... in that case you are pre approved and fully susidised

Recent rule?

I went for LASIK when I was in NS w/o any issue leh. Only need to take my own leave.

In fact, my OC also went for LASIK around the same time so I was talking abt it with him :s13:
