Hi Japan experts,

I bought travel sim cards for family (asia coverage because in Taiwan and Japan) however it does not work while i am here in Taiwan. I will fly over to Japan tomorrow at narita. What's the recommended data option in tokyo in terms of value? I need to provide for 4 phones. Is reserving wifi egg possible to pick up at narita? Or would buying physical sim (2 out of 4 phones no esim) be more value?

Looking at mobal it seems physical sim starts from 4500jpy. Is that the average price I should be expecting regardless the option?

Thank you v much in advance.

thank you for your advice.

bought one from klook to pick up from airport.
so did u get the pocket wifi? this probably will work out of the box.

my previous trip, bought sim & esim. esim wasn't working & waste precious time to troubleshoot. in the end gave up since sim was working.

Yes apparently pick up wifi router at narita needs at least one day advance booking.

And yes I wasted a lot of time trying to get sim card fixed but the seller didn't provide any help at all even though there was a urgent whatsapp.

I also couldn't connect to the network with my travel sim from shoppee. It only worked after the seller provided the correct APN and operator settings .

On the Changi recommend wifi , when collecting it, was told that it is not advisable for sharing with multiple devices . True enough, hit the data cap after a few hours of use and the speed throttling was so slow that I couldn't even use Google maps

Did you turn on volte or put the travel sim in your sim slot 1?

Disabled sim activation in app setting if your phone is xiaomi brand

Never had problems with the Changi recommends wifi dongle for the past 4 Japan trips these 3 years. Maybe only me and my wife using the unlimited data.

Ordered a SIM card via Shopee and paid extra for expedited delivery, but it is now late by 2 days.

Didn't expect I will have to look into this thread for advice.
