I think it's pretty good, for me at least. But it differs with every individual's capacity for learning. I am motivated, worked hard, helpful teachers, ample time to revise and study, look into other materials. I saw that my peers are doing equally well, except for those who couldn't attend all lessons.

I would highly recommend taking Japanese lessons in Bunka until their intermediate 4. Bunka really gives you a solid foundation to continue study elsewhere or do self-study.

There after you can continue at JCS.

For JLPT preparation class, I recommend Ikoma.

Thanks for the advice. Yupp currently my plan is to study there up to Int 4. Hope I didn't miss much on what they learnt in ele 1 & 2. Seems like they haven't introduce any kanjis yet. Kinda weird.

I would also recommend getting the complete series of Grammar dictionaries published by The Japan Times for grammar freaks like me. I have completed reading the first two books (Yes! I read them like story books on trains, buses etc.) Just bought the 3rd book last month. These books are really helpful in providing more detailed explanations and explaining subtle differences between similar grammar constructions.

Wow thanks for sharing these information. I had the first grammar book the yellow one a while back. Errm many years ago I think. But I did not make full use of it. Now that you have mentioned it, I'm so eager to get to it now.

Yes, I'm very weak in particles. So cannot get a grip with ga and wa... lol... Think I'll drop by Kino to see if I can find this book or not. :D

I bought it during year 2002 from Kinokuniya main branch, errm do you guys think there are a lot of changes since then? For the yellow paper back grammar book.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am thinking of getting the 2nd book next Month & the last book in June.

Do i have to get all 3 versions or is 日本語文法辞典「上級編」 the superset of all three books?

I got all of them locally. (;_; ) Really damn ex.
The basic one cost $59.90, intermediate one cost $83.95, and the advance one cost $78.10.
Prices might have changed.
Be assured that it will be money well spent if you are serious about learning Japanese.
Really the best grammar books for learning Japanese. ;)

Another book I would recommend to beginner learners is this.
A bit old though but still serve its purpose well.
