Ah... so that's how it should have been. Thanks a lot for pointing that out! ^^

Murr... I think that latter part was part of my twisted logic in referring to myself as a sorta repeat student since I'm re-taking the same course after 8 years. I guess that shouldn't be the way to phrase that huh? :o

Hi ppl, which japanese school will u guys recommand for pre-advance lessons?
Thinkin of takin JLPT 2 next year.
Im thinkin of Bunka and which sensei is good in there?
Or is there other schools that are affordable and good?
I heard Ikoma is good but cost wise is kinda ex.

For pre-advance classes in Bunka, group classes, Mr Gima teaches up till PA1, and Ms Mizusaki teaches PA1, PA2, PA3, Adv and BJT. Affordable, yes. Good ? Well, if you don't mind Ms Mizusaki sensei's tekan then it's good. It's a baptism of fire for those that survive her classes... From 1st hand experience...

what about just takin normal classes in bunka? not prep class.
What I actually need now is to improve in my speech and listenin.
Thought Im a jlpt 3 passer, still very bad in my speech and listenin.
any advices?

Either

1. Go to Int2 or Int3 and start from there to acclimatise yourself [ you should be able to do the homework, just work on the speech and listening whenever it's your turn to respond ]

2. Go sign up for PA1 [ by virtue of your JLPT3 ] and get prepared to be stuck there for a long time until the sensei feels you are up to scratch to get to next level [ else it's not fair to those who have promoted and share the same classroom with you ].

OR

3. Take up a individual class and highlight on those issues that you feel you are weak to the sensei, sensei will then customise something for you, which you can work on, a bit costly though, but you can try doing it on a 1hour per week basis, so still quite manageable which is what I am doing now, to prepare myself before starting group PA1 lessons.

heh... the own cert also not recognise?

Ya lor, Very realistic, Bunka is only interested in current level of language ability, not what happened in the past, more like some sort of key performance indicator, my [ personal ] guess of the school's approach is like, no point learn so and so, and get so and so certs, but can the student in question really able to perform in real time [ not on paper, not writing, not reading ] speaking at the level that the cert is indicating ?

Like if e.g. someone had a diploma in some discipline 10 years ago [ ok make it 2 years instead ], and scored distinctions all the way, thing is, does this person still held that knowledge he had 10 years ago, and can still score the same results if the same exam were to appear before him [ ignoring changes in trends / changes in technology ] ?

That is probably why, even those who were not attending classes for more than 4mths have to retake the evaluation test again to be sure competency is still there. Which is something I like, at least when you attend a class, you have confidence in your classmates of their proficiency is at a minimum level, sensei has confidence & morale in teaching us that we can complete work, and interact at a given level, and no one is denied a proper lesson because someone else is slowing the class due to lack of ability.

After all, we paid hard earned money to attend...

He was talking about Pre-Advanced class...

So i am saying that Pre-Advanced class don't train you for JLPT 2.
Yes, there's prep class in Bunka, but it's not as good as the JLPT2 prep class from ikoma.

But i still wanna emphasize, do you study for JLPT or to learn how to speak?

I have a few friends, very very competitive. Cannot speak well but wanna score very good for JLPT. Not only that, they look down on those ppl who just pass their JLPT but can speak very well.

Language is something that only each individual can find out what it means to themselves.

Yesterday, i interviewed some HWZ ppl and they asked me if i am Japanese.

So i said, No, they were quite shocked that i spoke like a Japanese and that i can hold my conversation very well..

But i still have a long way to go, my senior studied Japanese for 10 years, married a Japanese wife and now is almost 90% Japanese already, LOL!

but for BJT classes, the students they are taking are limited and have to wait for dunno how long. >.<

my try:

(I don't understand this last part, the part in front is explaining why u are a foreign student?)

almost the same as dimitri_can

unfinished07, i don't think can use

通う according to 広辞苑:

通う according to 明鏡:

Edit: Double-checked with my native Japanese friend, 通う is usable...

You repeat 通っていました because.

Masumi says:
