the syllubus is good and interesting
but remember to study till u finish the intermediate courses else you have to start from scratch if u intend to switch schools

would appreciate if anyone could help to explain the usage of the 6 forms. this was taught from bunka

1. nai-form , to make sentences negative

2. masu-form, generally used ,for formal occasions

3. dictionary- form, for informal occasions.

4. conditional form- to ask advice from listener

5. volitional form- speaker's plan, thought or idea

6. te- form- 1. Request Eg: miTE kudasai (please look)

2. Present progessive form -iru/imasu( formal)
Eg: Hirugokun o tabeteiru ( im having lunch)

3. To decribe a habitual action and condition

4. Listing successive actions, used to connect 2 or more verbs
Eg: Hachi-ji ni okite gakkou ni itta ( I got up at 8 and went to school)

5. Asking permission
Eg: Teribi o mite mo ii desuka(May i watch tv)

Am i correct in the explaination of the following verbs? these are gathered through various websites and the messy textbook doesn't really help much.

Hi zannnzannn, what u have learned is only the basics. There are further more meanings to it. To not confuse you, i'll just comment on what u have written. If i am not wrong, u are at Elementary 2 of Bunka now yeah?

My comments in red.

->yes

How to explain... The textbook is not meant to be read as a normal textbook, but designed to be used as a teaching guide for senseis. It's not messy, but rather written in a technical way as the writer has a degree in Mathematics. My guess is you obtained an Ele1 textbook and tried to self study yourself so that you can take the placement test and go straight to Ele2. Cause if you are already in Ele1 class, your sensei will already be teaching you all these.

You only need to worry about the difference once you reach PreAdvance 1 level. Any choice from Ele1 to Int4 is the right answer. Sensei will mark your answer as correct whichever one you use.

Your timing is very bad... Fancy asking these questions when JLPT is arriving in a few days.

I will answer your questions after this Sun Dec 6 if you still have more... For now we have to use whatever little time we have left to prepare...

and if you know how to derive the 6 forms, you already have 1/3 of the Ele1 syllabus covered.

it would be good to get a copy of Minna no Nihongo 1-1,1-2,2-1,2-2 Grammar Translation Notes. It's about 15-20 per book, sold in Kinokuniya. If you wish to take a look at the book, u can pm me. =)
