Was just wondering if anybody has a good business Japanese book to recommend? Looking for some on face to face conversation and talking on the phone for now.

Thanks ah keong for your advice, any idea if where I can get the book u mentioned? Possible to borrow from library?

Hi, can anyone give advice which school is better for beginners to learn jap? BUNKA or IKOMA?

I researched on web, heard that Bunka is using a new patented method of teaching? Any comments about both school?

I intend to take part time, kind of confused about IKOMA part time basic and full time basic, why full time more lessons? Thought both courses are supposed to be the same, just that part time is splits the lessons up, end results is more lessons, but ea. lessons duration is shortened...:s22:

the difference is in the style used. business japanese have a different, more formal way of speaking/writing. more formal, more polite, and terms mainly used during business.
usual japanese classes teaches more conversational language, but of coz the proper type.
there is this BJT (Business japanese test) held yearly, can be enrolled in JCS. there is no pass/fail, but just a gauge of your score.

Think for Business Japanese, we can only do either Self-study or attending that few schools that offer this course in that case...But one issue here is that is BJT still that recognised in the workplace as compared to the past?

I need to get a compact electronic dictionary too to support my learning and for travelling to Japan. Any recommendation? Should be easy enough to be used by elementary/intermediate learners of the japanese language and powerful enough to help even experts. Budget is $700.

Or alternatively software to be installed on itouch, ipad, etc.

Bunka, in my opinion, moves at a faster pace and they're very much stronger in teaching Japanese Grammar through their patented method. They're also quite strict in their rules and regulation - in terms of replacement classes etc. My friends who have studied in Ikoma feel that they take a more relaxed approach, more fun. They don't go through much hassles pertaining to replacement classes too. :D

You can always try an E1 class in either schools first then decide lor. :) I believe each school has their own uniqueness in terms of teaching Japanese.

Hi legnaiton, thanks for your advice, much appreciated. I think most likely I will go for Bunka, since I found on google that their pace is faster and more stuffs thrown at you. Hope to be able to learn and experience more, and they are cheaper than Ikoma.

Ikoma also has its plus points, many comment that they have lots of good sensei and their teaching method is slower pace, but great emphasis is placed on the ensuring that u are able to apprehend what they teach. Well, Ikoma is more expensive though.

I actually prefer Ikoma, but since I am new, just pick the cheaper one and see how it goes lor. :D
