wanna ask... does jap character only consist of hiragana, katakana n kanji only ? i'm learning hiragana at the moment, may i know at which stage will i be learning katakana n kanji? why hiragana and katakan sound the same?

i'm still learning but i'll try to answer you anyway.
yes, the main 3 systems are those, there are a few more irregular symbols here.
i learnt katakana right after hiragana for my class, depends on your style i guess.
basically every hiragana has an identical sounding katakana, only written differently, katakana is used for things like foreign names and interjection kind of stuff.

just take it that hiragana and katakana its the same.
kata is just used to tell you that the noun is imported from other languages.
eg. coffee, beer etc.
so when u see katakana, you will instantly know that they are describing something that is 'imported' from foreign culture.
this is actually more convenient compared to say korean, where the text is all the same and its harder to filter out the foreign stuff.

Hi does anyone know which school teaches basic level at a faster pace ? I know bunka is one of them but i feel its quiet expensive. However a cheap school like hougang takes 1 year to complete basic which i feel is quite slow. does anyone know about cambridge school or Lingo??

Its better to study in a slow pace. U study fast will end up being weak...

i have seen numerous cases of students who transferred to my class after learning from schools that teach fast, in the end, still give up Japanese... Not becos they cannot take it. Its becos their foundations are not strong enough. I myself took 4 yrs to reach N1

My fren also managed to pass his N2 in mere 3-4 mths, N2 prep course in Ikoma.
Ikoma has this program that focuses entirely on JLPT, solely for those who just wanna pass JLPT, and another that is regular course (e.g. speak, write, listen, cultures e.t.c.), which will take couple of years.

This is technically achievable but downside is he can't speak, nor even write a decent essay. He told me not to follow his footsteps, so I took a longer route instead, I realized learning Japanese is not about JLPT, it's a lifelong journey like any other language...and that fluency is not measured by JLPT alone.

Yup, it is... it has been 8 years for me, though i have my JLPT N1, working in a Japanese related organization, speaking and writing business Japanese, teaching Japanese...i am still learning along with my colleagues and students. (^_^)

Learning a language requires lots of determination and passion. If an individual doesn't have both of that, it would be v hard to pursue the journey...

皆さん、

I suppose a lot of your guys have problems with this.
So here goes. =)

j8f9.png

「らしいです」は、話者が断定できないことを外部からの情報をもとに、あるいは、話者が何らかの証拠などから推測するような場合に使われます。ただし、「ようです」に比べ話者の判断に責任を持っていないという特徴があります。

「らしいです」, based on the external information, or the things that the speaker cannot conclude, or, from some form of evidence, the speaker guesses something. However, compared to 「ようです」、there is a special characteristic that there is no responsibility towards the speaker’s judgement.

例文:

「田中さんは日本の車を持っていたらしいです」 Tanaka-san seems to have a Japanese car

「田中さんは日本の車を持っていたようです」 Tanaka-san seems to have a Japanese car.
(speaker has a sense of feeling that ~)

Sound complicated? For me, how i remember is to expose yourself to more 例文. =)
