Anyone studying in Ikoma? If yes, can share what's in for the elementary 1 term 1 classes? Is the whole term learning basic words and greetings on top of the hira\katakana only or there's more 'advance' communication taking place?

I started Ikoma on intermediate class but the class itself is conducted in Japanese from the very start. However you can't really converse in Japanese in Elementary right? I would say their Pre-Advance class has the most conversation as you will be given a topic per chapter to talk about among the class.

the elementary 1 term 1 class would start from Hiragana. I would advise you to start learning the Hiragana and Katakana script even before you start the classes.

There are basic words and greetings to be learned and also basic communication.

May I ask what do you define as 'advance' communication?

"something like that"

Hi all,

How was JLPT today?

Today, i had the chance to take N4 with my students today and had other students taking N1-N5...

I personally feel that the level difficulty is so-so, but the qns are a bit tricky. For those taking N1, N2, dont forget to revise your basics, especially your adverbs.

I was quite happy that some of the points that i spotted came out... N1 is a bit easier than last year, based on what my students told me. N2 is a bit harder on the listening section.

Don't forget to revise, revise, revise!

It's been a long day for me, woke up at 545am and just ended work now.

If you have any personal questions like how to improve various sections, drop me an email. No charges. Just want to help a fellow 後輩. =)

Cheers,
Can

How did you land yourself in intermediate? Did they interview you or? I was doing intermediate 1 term 2 alr and I quit a year ago. Now I'm told that I've to go for some kinda assessment, if i cannot make it, i have to redo elementary again. I thought that was kinda stupid la :/ i can read hiragana and katakana, converse wise, almost cannot make it.

This is to ensure that your proficiency can align with the students of the current class.
I believe if you are able to produce the basic cert, think they would be able to skip the assessment.

Frankly speaking, if you are unable to make it for the assessment. It would be better to redo elementary again. The basics of the language is critical....

I have seen JLPT N1 and N2 holders making mistakes of fundamentals and basics of Japanese Language. Especially in conversation.

If budget is not an issue, it would be good for you to redo the elementary.
Treat it as a refresher :D

I took a placement test back then. Foundation is very important so if it is not strong, they have to reinforced it.

Japanese School Recommendation

Hi Guise,

I've never learn any Japanese Language at all, but can understand some basic since I used to watch a lot anime when I was young, and currently am working in a Japanese company, I thought learning some would be good, I wanted to understand what my boss were saying to me (I am now guessing most of the time xD) and speaking and some reading if possible. Do you all have any recommendation school for me? Some advice would be much appreciated.

Currently I have in my mind is Hougang Japanese Language School. My school fees will be paid by company though $600 annually.

Please advice.
