Not sure if this happens with the Japanese as well but, I'm always having problems with which kind of keigo I should use for different scenarios.

e.g. request for permission of materials for personal use.

Then I ended up mixing with teineigo, although the Japanese said it's fine as long as it's not too casual.

Just some 2 cents comments. Took a look at your JD and i can tell you that if you are looking for such a person who can do translation for your work, they need to have at least N1 standard, if not, they might not be able to translate what you need skillfully.

Hi everyone,

I have been studying at Ikoma for 6 months, now doing Basic 2 term 1. However, due to other personal commitments, I am unable to catch up with the fast pace of teaching there.

I am wondering if I can transfer to another school that teaches at a slower pace without having to start from scratch again? Will this be possible?

Any recommendations of good schools that will allow me to continue from where I have left off?

If you have personal commitments, it might be better for you to stop a while.
I have a lot of students who have personal commitments, in the end, still dropped out.
because not enough time to study and revise...

You have to weigh your options loh. Learning Japanese requires commitment and hard work. Will you have time to revise if you go at a slower speed?

Yes, I can still revise on what I had learnt from Ikoma but have to make extra efforts every week, especially to memorize the huge amount of vocabulary they throw at us every week. It will make a lot of difference if the pace is slower.

JCS goes at a slower pace, but because the textbook they used is the same.
You will still be required to memorize like 50 pieces of vocabulary for 1 chapter...

My students also have problems memorizing the vocabulary...
One of the better ways to memorize the vocabulary, copy the whole textbook.
It will help.

We are using Minna no Nihongo at Ikoma, I heard that JCS uses the same book. Ever since Basic 1 term 2, they were going at almost one chapter per week. This is like you said, about 50 words/phrases per week which can be really hard to catch up if we slack for even one week.

The notes provided by Ikoma is directly taken from the Chinese version and English version of the translation notes. You can get a copy directly from Kinokuniya. So i wouldn't call that good. Also, they don't give the whole set of materials from the translation notes. If you go to Kinokuniya and take a look, you will know what i mean.

Having said that, i would say that the JLPT prep class materials is much better. At least the materials are not whole-sale copy and paste, if you know what i mean.

I haven't been to JCS before, so i cannot speak for them.

I am not sure if they provide the translation notes, but most of the materials, if you need, just buy them off the shelf...

If u go to other schools, they might require you to do a level check to put u in a correct level.

Hi tubbycub-san,
I would suggest that you may want to put your studies at Ikoma (after completing say one section/semester) on hold before continuing at a later stage(assuming you still remember what you learnt).

Many schools may require to go through some form of interview/test to check your level of proficiency to see which class maybe suitable for you.

JCS has intensive courses for elementary(~N5) and intermediate(~N4) level. You may want to settle your matters first before doing an intensive course(if you need to rush).
