Hello! I have some qns...Hopefully someone can clear them up. Those in brackets are the answers.
1)兄と弟は周りの人にいつも比べられてしまう。
I'm a bit unclear about the use of to here.
Is this "The elder brother AND the younger brother has always been compared"?
Or is this "The younger brother has always be compare WITH his elder brother"?
Then how would you say for the other sentence?
The elder brother and younger brother are always being compared with the people around them.
比べられて->受身形(passive)
2)部屋の電気が消えている(ということ)は、多分もう寝たのでしょう。
I dun understand why to iu is used here. =_=
It's said that if the lights in the room is turned off, most probably, you have already slept?
3)運動の後で、学生たちが冷たい水を(ほしくっている)。
How does this grammar work? I have never seen this before. Anyway shouldn't it be hoshikute? Or is tte the form u used when relaying a msg? Please elaborate.
4)嫌でもテスト受け(なくてはいけません)。
1)ないではだめです。
2)なくてはいけません
3)ないではなりません
4)ないてはすみません
I chose the right answer but I'm not sure why 1 and 3 is not the answer. What are their differences?
No such grammer.
5)まだ掃除が終わらないから教室へ(入っちゃ)ためだよ。
1)入って
2)入った
3)入るは
4)入っちゃ
Is this the colloquial form of 入ってしまう? If so, where is the う? Plus shouldn't it be in te-form plus は to conjugate to だめ?
yes. it is. う can be omitted at times. Not necessary to always have a て-form.
6)こちらのワイシャツの這おうが少し(お高う)ございます。
1)お高う
2)お高い
3)高いに
4)高いで
I chose 4 because I thought it would be 高いである, which basically means 高いです right? It seemed logical to me. I didn't learn this type of keigo...Oshiete kuremasen ka?
