At Beginner 1 Lesson 3, they don't learn 「木村さんは彼女の部屋にいますか」, which is taught in Lesson 10. They learn 「木村さんは部屋ですか」.

Hi, I wonder which books are good for self studying of Japanese? Those that I found in the bookstores rely heavily on Romanji which I do not need or want. I want a series or book that teaches the 4 conpoment of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Thanks, for your recommendation!

What types of books are you looking for? What level are u studying? Self-study?

I hope I don't sound rude but you've asked me before why I don't seem to answer your questions, well it's because many of your questions can easily be checked in a textbook. This question for instance, you can easily look up using Jim Breen's dictionary or something. I believe that while this thread is about learning Japanese, it's not a forum meant for spoonfeeding or endless checking of whether you did your homework correctly?

a word of fairness from a neutral party. i'm not trying to side anyone, please dun let this become a flamming thread.

Rule number one for learning japanese: do not be afraid to ask or make mistake.ahmahipoh, i feel that it's ok to ask questions that u dont understand, but u seemed to be too reliant on this board for checking ur answers, it's certainly not going to help u improve, if u are afraid to make mistake, by letting ur sensei correct u, u might learn something extra. moreover, we are all learners, and u can only take our words as advices as we make mistakes too.

If u are really interested in learning japanese, i would suggest investing in a good dictionary. my teacher at bunka reccommended this title: kondansha furigana english japanese and kondansha furigana japanese english. they are brown and blue respectively. i found them extremely helpful in my early stages of learning japanese. if u are really aiming to master the language, i would suggest buying an electronic dicionary or investing in a good hard cover dictionary. i'm using casio ex-word gp 9700. it has kenkyusha's huge jap english inside it (green fairy). it also has handwritting function which is good for kanji learning. u cant get it here so must buy online.

a good dictionary will help u a lot. esp when u want to chk up a word and how to use it. if u dun want to spend a single cent, u cant try like what terraj san has mentioned jimmy breen's. i dont really like it because, i must on the com everytime i use and it's not portable unlike my electronic dictionary =P. but it's FREE, so it's better than nothing.

we are here to hep and learn from each other. learning a language can be tough and sometimes it's quite hard to get help, but that doesn;t mean u resort to scolding vulgarities. thank you for reading my ranting. cheers to learning jap!

If i am not mistaken jisho.org uses the same database as jim breen...
Personally i prefer jisho.org bcuz of the interface...looks nicer...

maybe you can try find at kino? coz that day i saw few displayed there but didnt get to see how much it cost.
