Barrin, if you're thinking of importing books from Japan you should try getting from http://www.bk1.jp/ if they have the book. Their shipping is very cheap if you use SAL since it goes purely by weight with no handling charge. Takes about 1 week to get to Singapore. Now with the yen at an astronomical rate though, if the book is currently available in Singapore it might be cheaper to buy it from kino (assuming they haven't adjusted the prices yet).

If its not too troublesome, can you include the ISBN number for the books you have recommended recently. I am particularly interested in this one.

Ahmahippo, this was the post that I was referring to. You've commented that I never seem to answer your questions, that was my answer.



I meant no malice in my post at all. I just thought that if you really wanted to learn you should be more proactive in your own search as well.

Anyway, unfinished07 has already said the rest. I'm sorry if my previous post offended you but you know how the written word isn't always the best way to convey emotions. I just thought the best way to learn new things is to learn how to learn.

Thanks for this info anyway really appreciate it. I was hoping with the kino 20% discoutn recently can make the book more affordable. Actually always quite heartache when come to buying Jap textbook. They are so thin (few pages) and yet so expensive.

I can't help the way you feel nor change the way you think. I might have posted a frank albeit blunt comment but I don't think it warranted the 4-letter verbal abuse. I guess you're the type who's not able to take criticism well; that's going to be a big impediment in your studies, be it Japanese or something else.

Anyway, if you think I should dig through all posts before I reply, why don't you try using quotations to prevent misunderstanding in the first place? Here's what I think: The answers to the Japanese questions you posted are littered throughout this thread. Perhaps you should consider reading through all 180++ pages before you ask? Oh, another thought: Google is your friend.

Hmmm you could try to get a bk1 account just to have a look. They frequently email you discount coupons (usually once every month). They're usually in the form of 300 yen coupons. If you spend at least 3000 yen (tax excluded) they deduct 300 yen. Also when you buy from overseas you don't get taxed so you need only look at the non-taxed price. Japanese books are pretty light. I reckon the SAL charges for one textbook book would be about 500 yen assuming 500 grams. For the book Barrin is looking for it would be about SGD$46.50 in total. Not a bad deal I think. (Although with a 20% discount from Kino, at the current price of SGD47.50, Kino Singapore wins).

I think Kino will have to readjust its book prices soon as the strong yen is likely to persist. Kino Singapore usually prices its books 10-20% higher so this might be an alternative to look at in the medium run. BTW, bk1 I think does magazine subscriptions as well though I'm not too clear of what the procedure is. They've recently teamed up with HMV so maybe now you can get a wider range of CDs etc at a much cheaper cost assuming the shipping charges are the same as the books.

Barrin: I think I remember this book now. I saw it 3-4 years ago at Kino. I had a read through it and thought it really good. The English explanations were very concise and easy to understand. Unfortunately I put it back on the shelf and when I thought to buy it later I couldn't find it and couldn't remember the name either
