for me, i would recommend my friend to skip N5, direct jump to N4 for new comer.
for my side, i've been self studied for 2 years till now..this is my 3rd year...
i passed level 3 (N4) dec 2009 then i skipped N3 to N2 (dec 2010) this time... and i've passed too... but the point aren't that good... like ぎりぎり。。。ｗｗｗ

well i should put it more effort this year, contact me if you need any help...

Hey guys, I'm currently serving NS, POP-ing around July. I'm interested in taking up Japanese (being able to read,write and speak rather fluently) should time allow me. So, does anyone have recommendations for which language school to enroll into? I've heard of Ikoma and BUNKA, exploring my options at the moment :)

if u have the time to commit, or rather to revise what u have learned from your japanese class at least 2-3hrs/wk, i would recommend that u choose bunka. I've been with bunka for abt 3months+ now and am continuing on to intermediate. I think the teaching approach is great. But if u don't have much time to revise and you have the financial abilities to study at ikoma then by all means go for that as the teaching is at a much slower rate.

Just wondering, how many language school in SG teaches Japanese geared towards taking JLPT on the weekends?

to a slight certain extent, i would disagree. it doesn't depend on the rate of teaching rather it depends largely on the individual capabilities (discipline, interest, motivation, etc)

1 thing i always ask is "what is the intention you wanna get out of learning japanese" before advising on the path :D

well, to each his/her own :D

I just went for the info session at JCS, but i felt the last part: asking the comers to sign up for their prep class, is a bit... =/

"If you join our prep class, then you will surely pass N...."
