why not try bunka? The price is about the same and furthermore if it's the pace you are worried abt i think it's not a concern anymore because they are going to split the elementary stage from 2 to 3. So things are going to be taught at a much slower pace.
If you have the means to spend more, then maybe ikoma? There have been a long debate between ikoma and bunka. Both are equally good schools IMO
Just go and sign up, once you sign up then there will be no looking back. Don't waste time procrastinating anymore. It's easier to pick up another language when you are younger.

Registration for elementary is in mid Dec I think.. Last yr was 19 dec. Queue started at 6am. I was no. 38 and was there at 730am.

Intermediate level registration I heard is in early Jan.
Call them for exact dates.

I think In general, learning new things is harder. But as long as you have the passion and drive, you will enjoy the process and see it as a challenge and not a diffcult task.

okie thanks. i wonder who's the teacher for the N4 prep class. my mum only ask the price, timing, date but not the teacher lol. I've no choice but to miss 2 lessons since i still have 2 more int 2 lessons with bunka on fri then i'll change to sun class for int 3.

does BUNKA has N4 prep class?

Hi, just wondering if anyone took Japanese in NUS? Am a total beginner, but I'm interested in picking up the language. Or would studying at Bunka be better? Ahh, decisions!

I took till Level 3.

Each week 2 hrs lecture, 5 hours tutorial.. It goods as there's a lot of quizzes to 'force' u to memorize the vocabs, there's listening test each week , and u will have to do a project (roleplay) in which u need to prepare script and act with yr teammates.

5 hrs tut is spread into

TUT A: Grammar, Vocab ( the quizzes may not be so straightforward - u have to change the tense/form)

TUT B: Grammar, Vocab

TUT C: Conversational.

Oh yah, the listening test in NUS is terribly difficult for some of us. I could say its even more difficult than JLPT. The exams also, the sensei would set questions that are VERY tricky. thus u must really study for it !

oh yah, not to forget the lecture quiz that u have to do for each lecture ? thus , attendance is compulsory if not u have to submit absence report!

Hope i am not scaring u off !! haha

Anyway, my lecturer was Amazaki Osamu sensei. He's really good but strict sometimes and funny too !

I'm matriculating this year, going to FASS. In that case I guess I'd take it in sem 2, when I'm more familiar with school XD

I took it before up to level 4 i.e. still the end of Minna no Nihongo elementary series. Just like yumiko33 explained before, it was tough and it is even tougher for me since Chinese is not my mother tongue and I know nuts about Kanji before that so I really have to memorize them from scratch. But I did well in the end

IMHO, thanks to NUS, my foundation is quite solid. But you have to diligently revise and do the 宿題 and be proactive during class. I really miss the 先生 and the interesting projects that we were required to do. Totally worth it. Two thumbs up!

Thanks, that just reaffirmed my decision to pick it up! Though it seems like it'd take some work, but effort is probably needed in picking up any foreign language. Looks like a good chance to learn the foundations first, before I enrol in a language school to progress up further
