Hi guys

Just want to introduce you guys to a site for Language students to go onto and organize their own class. A site to get to know language students and go to class with people you like!

Suggest a school and language...

Talk about topics related to language studies... or just hang out!

The Singapore Language Students Meetup Group at Meetup.com...

See you there!

Hi everyone. I used to take Japanese classes but I stopped around Intermediate level a few years back to focus on my uni studies. I still have interest in the language and culture so I am looking to take Japanese classes again.

I have a JLPT4 cert but I have pretty much forgotten everything. Also, thanks to being a working adult, I don't really have the discipline to relearn the language up to where I stopped by myself after work.

Currently I am looking at Bunka or Ikoma for lessons, what would you guys recommend for me? Thanks!

It really depends what you wanna focus on.

For Bunka, focus on Intermediate is more on grammar, less on conversation. From Pre-advance onwards, then they start to focus more on conversation.

For Ikoma, it's more well-rounded. Although i have students who are doing in Ikoma as well as my class as they feel lack of conversation practice in Ikoma.

Ask yourself
1) What's the purpose of learning Japanese?
2) Do you hope to speak or write or both?
3) Are you willing to start from beginner or what?
4) How determined are you to master the language?
5) Are you able to allocate 2-3 hours per week to revise your work?

In both Bunka and Ikoma, i have seen numerous good students and bad students. A lot have to depend on yourself.

I have attended quite a number of the schools' lessons, but i must say that Ikoma and Hougang Japanese Language School is quite structured.

For those that are using Minna no Nihongo, you might be interested in the words that are added/removed from the new Minna no Nihongo 2nd edition.

Mochiron, ima kara Shingaporu de takusan nihongo gakkou desune ~

Datte ....

The japanese schools only hold the most 1-2 classes per week for evening classes.

Especially if you are working adult, benkyo no jikan wa nagai desuyo~~~

The time you need to attain your desired level, say JLPT2, would take a few years at least !!

Thats simply too long in my opinion.

Dimitri san, for your classes, how long do you estimate a beginner will attain JLPT2 level under your tuleage?

Assuming he can keep on progressing class to class.

It's bout 3 years.
Beginner to JLPT N2.
Assuming it's per week lesson.
N3 and N2 together in 1 year
