My disciple will be starting one soon. =)

Thanks for your response!
Taking classes with Hougang Japanese School soon.![]()
Are you looking for books to complement your classes text or looking for reference books?
![]()
Yup, to complement my classes for me to practice more or helping me understand easier.

I recommend these books for self study for N5~N4 (for my students).
Good Luck!![]()
Thanks for the recommendation.
The green book: Japanese for Busy People I, get the Kana vers?

). I have started taking elementary classes at Hougang too (near my house).
But just wondering, based on normal experience, until which level will one be able to converse normal, daily topics with Japanese? Also, when it comes to the elder Japanese, would it be more challenging?
(edit: what I mean is, I don't need to be able to read Asahi Shimbun and talking cheem topics, but daily stuff you do with your parents)
How do you define normal, daily topics?
do you mean the daily stuff you do with your parents?
The mileage varies for each and everyone. I am in my sixth year of study for once a week class. And I have classmates that are unable to even hold a proper casual conversation. For myself I think it took me 3 to 4 years.I know this would be the likely question. Things like being able to describe your day, the weather, your feelings, your job, health.
I know JLPT has a description for each of the levels, but I would like to find out in real life terms, at which level would someone feel comfortable interacting with native adult and especially elderly.
