Having a degree is better than having none. Unless you personally don't like the course, choosing the least preferred choice is still an option.

If got into the last choice which is Engineering and you have average grades in Mathematics and Physics, will you still take up?

If u placed that within your choice list, wouldn't u have already considered the chance of being accepted for your last choice? Personally, I only filled courses that I was interested & left the rest blank.
Some ppl who did badly previously can end up doing well in Uni so doing average in the past is not impt. The impt point is that u must be passionate or at least have interest in it or your uni life will be a torture. I'll recommend u to look through the module list to decide & see if u believe it will be manageable. No point graduating w the most shitty results coz u hate the course.
If u have to matriculate this year & private or work is not an option, then u also have no other choice, unless u appeal. So it really is up to how desperate u are & how interested are you in it

Yes and i agree with zengx2 too on that some people who did badly can end up doing well. Your 'A' Levels don't define who you are. If you put engineering in your choice it means you woudn't have minded taking it? Which engineering is it btw ? Some (not all) don't really deal with that complex of maths (aside from the common math modules) in the undergraduate years. At most 1/2 modules.

But personally speaking I have friends who didn't do that well in A Levels (BBC/C kind) and who in uni now are 2nd uppers (4.2 that range) whilst i know of others who did well for A Levels (straight As or AAA/B) but are now struggling with the course.
