His my younger cousin actually where we played together since young so we're more like "friends". Well he sort of dejected after hearing lots of unpleasant xiong experiences tank operators have to endure from his friends and the internet so trying to find some facts to cheer him up. :)

In BMTC he sort of get tekan a lot so i'm concern whether he can cope with this new vocation if he gets it.

Back to the topic I heard from him that only a handful of them were interviewed abt 100, are they too stupid among the graduating batch of BMTC or simply they rejected going command sch so they were chosen to do this sai kang job?

IMO, they are not stupid. Being in armour formation requires certain security clearance (those in armour should know). Maybe they are the few that clear their requirements and being interviewed doesn't mean u cant go command school, they might place u as their specs/officers.

saf interview them is not because they are stupid or anything. they are interviewed because they are special in a good way.

interviews are also done for other vocations such as sniper and recee.

when you are interviewed, it means that saf believes that you possess certain special qualities that are required for this particular job.

i was from armour and i worked wif those pioneers of 48SAR. i know them personally and i will advise u not to take up the offer. its gonna be damn xiong. the CO is a high flyer as some of them said. hes a LTC at 32 iirc, i know those commanders who went to germany for training. they will be the ones who will run 48. think abt it. theres a high chance that clerks will have to stay in for 48. does that imply anything to u? the CO is damn on the ball and a law by law person. having experienced first hand the training as a tank commander, i know how xiong it is and thats for SM1. leopard i carried the dummy round b4. its like i cant even lift it up la. n u may become a loader. physical training at a minimal is bs. theres live run in every camp in singapore for 2 days of the week on top of ur normal physical training. gunner don say le la. the mechanism of the gun is damn complicated and if one bolt or clamp when u handling comes down on ur hand which i personally saw happen b4. be prepared for a few broken fingers. and the uniform, its damn thick. and if u like handling grease and oil everyday, then being a tankee is for u. not say u driver u 2 years driver. u will be crossed trained to take on 2 roles. so think abt it ba. even armour specs don have it gd. wat abt the men? if u wan relax, 48's not for u.

My cousin is actually quite a blur nerd so I'm really worried about the job scope (mental & physical stress) a tankie has to undertake. Always hear a lot that armour confirm very xiong.. Don't know what SAF is thinking wanting him to do this job...

c'mon, even the clerk complain to me about the troublesome paper work he has to do when those chiong sua can rest during admin hours.

different people have different attitudes towards NS, some die die dont want to suffer a little bit of "hardship", some like the outdoors and are into warfare, others just take whatever comes to them.

for every job/vocation in the saf there is probably another "better" one, differing from person to person, it will never end.

You just need to tell him, no choice and just suck it up. no matter how rosy you put it, nothing will change unless he wants to chao keng - period

every vocation is xiong in its own way. some is physically more xiong and others are mentally more xiong.

even a driver is also very xiong. you can't afford to doze off while driving cos lives are at stake and any traffic accident you get involved into is an almost certain DB sentence for you.

Haha I just don't get why ppl keep saying that armour very xiong made him scare of it, maybe its the maintaining part that is xiong and moving of rounds. I've heard from ppl tankies do VOC instead of SOC? What's VOC?

maintaining is just like your own personal weapon, but this is a tank and the 4 man crew including a commander are "suppose" to maintain it together. I rather maintain the tank in the day in slacks and on a nice concrete ground and in outfield I have the luxury of just sitting down.

VOC is the vocational obstacle course, meaning signallar carry their signal sets and do the course etc... hmm what do tank drivers do? strip tank and carry them? :s11:

it is a fairly new thing, which I am lucky to miss it :s22:

I went to the interview and they said that for VOC you have to pass the ammo of the tank 32 rounds among the 4 person then complete the SOC course like normal, ending it with a 100 or 300m rundown with jerry cans. Oh god seems like i have a high chance of going to tankee too... regretted should have not express interest and at least got higher chance of MP :(

I am not sure, but from what I know this SOC thing not compulsory to "pass". my unit, was going finish atec waiting to ORD, then they say need to do this SOC, many either just wayang w/o much effort or just keng sick and not do it, ORD mood already.
