I suppose it acts like a mini PC tower. Luckily the Alienware Graphics Amplifier is still quite small in size as seen in the video. Just connect to enjoy greater and more powerful graphic performance when you need it (at home).

The Alienware 15 notebook + Alienware Graphics Amplifier is the perfect solution for gamers who want mobility and portability on the go, while powerful gaming performance at home.

for home use I rather get Dell Inspiron 24 7000, larger screen, cheaper, with Intel realsense camera.

Wow, is it new technology, toggle to choose playing in 4k or FHD? it is the same thing used in youtube where we can choose to play in higher resolutions?

What i mean is the Z5 Premium can play their media at 4k UHD when its needed. It will use 1080p screen on normal operations to save power for long battery life.

If laptops can use this technology it will certainly be very helpful for consumers since more and more manufacturers are using 4k UHD screens on their notebooks.

I think give it a few more years soon 4k UHD will become the mainstream.

So unless they can find a way to make longer battery life, else they may have to add in measures to save battery. Previously we were talking about the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 which has optional 4k UHD screen, now Alienware R3 laptops also offer optional 3840 x 2160 UHD screens. I guess they want notebook gamers to have the best gaming performance and experience similar to desktop gamers.

Bear in mind that though this external Alienware Graphics Amplifier is a plug-and-play solution but it doesn't work exactly like Nvidia Optimus/AMD Dynamic Switchable Graphics such that you can toggle between internal discrete and external graphics both ways while laptop is operating.

If you got to leave the place with your Alienware notebook, you need to shut down the entire laptop first and then to plug out the amplifier cable (or vice versa also possible) and then turn it on to switch it back to internal discrete graphics. Laptop will automatic goes into shutdown once you plug out the amplifier cable while the laptop is still turned on. In this mode, sleep function will also be disabled, leaving only shutdown option available.

This can potentially cause data loss issue to many as people may accidentally forgot to save their work on the notebook right before plugging out the amplifier cable, thinking that it is a 2-way plug-and-play dock as it seem to be one since you can plug in to operate while laptop is already on.

like that the hwz video dont represent actual condition as the person just plug out the cable from the Alienware Graphics Amplifier connecting to the Dell Alienware laptop and go off did not wait for the computer to shutdown

I was hoping the next video would be featuring the Alienware Alpha but seems like it features the Alienware notebook instead.

Seems like the Alienware Graphics Amplifier is also featured in the video!

yup saw Alienware Graphics Amplifier too, it cost around 400bucks in Dell SG if not wrong but in USA it usually sale @ 199usd. The Amplifer seem take up quite some space wonder next video will show how it work with Alienware gaming notebook

Yeah, thus i believe this Dell Alienware m17x r3 and above are designed as a desktop replacement than a laptop.

Dell Alienware 17 R3 has a weight of 3.8KG and a price tag of $3,999.00, such weight unable to carry out without a trolley bag

I wonder how many can afford such prices, getting Dell inspiron 24 7000 AIO would be more logical for home use

Any reasons they make Dell Alienware notebook so complicated?

Real life people may not always remember this wor :s22:

Alienware 17 seems very upgradable

IMG_4533.jpg

I suppose it also comes with discrete graphics card in removable MXM module? Can't see from this pic...

Best would be to downgrade the card to lowest MXM card possible and get the separate Graphics Amplifier for lowest heat/noise output from the laptop while getting the best performance from external graphics with more cooling.

GPU all soldered on~ no laptop GPU for sale neither
For dell computer sure got way to diy upgrade parts unless the parts soldered on :)

What you can do with Inspiron 24 7000 you can do it on alienware

The way dell design their laptop include ease to do replace/repair as their service staff are outsourced. With the ease to do replace/repair the downtime the customer need to wait also shorter~ imagine your Inspiron 24 7000 ram faulty the service staff just spend 5mins to change a new ram for u and the system back to normal :)

if GPU was soldered on for Dell brand, how can we customized the GPU when purchase for Dell Alienware or Dell inspiron 24 7000 or Dell Inspiron 15 7000?

At Best Denki, it seems that we can opp for whether to have Intel realsense camera for Dell inspiron 24 7000 for a nominal pricing~

As mentioned above, you can actually also remove the plug while laptop still in operation. The notebook probably already into its shutting down process when user was closing his notebook. Since the screen is behind our view, you also can't be assured it is still in fully on mode...

Note that switching GPUs requires a reboot, and it takes a few moments to reinitialize the internal GPU or the Amplifier graphics on power-up. Unplugging the Amplifier when the system is powered up will force Windows to shut down. Don’t grumble too much: That’s better than BSODs and a hard lock—you are, after all, pulling out your GPU while it’s on.

My advice is to save all your work first before plugging out traditionally like in the old days, treating it like your laptop power supply.

Size only ba i went to dell site see the gallery all same for any Dell Alienware R3 series laptop.

Yeah I also think the video clip is also featuring their latest Dell Alienware R3 series laptop. True seems sizing is the difference, not easy to spot the difference fr far.

Starting price at $2,899. Really powerful, can buy 2 of my current laptops

The case looks very durable though, maybe can survive even if a car rolled over it. I think HWZ can do a stress test to show what happens if the laptop accidentally drop while walking or from table :o

:s22: seems like Dell Inspirion series laptops are not light weight, even their Dell Alienware was above 3KG~

15inch usually not light no matter Inspirion or Alienware series unless you opt for Dell XPS series which weight about 2kg for 15inch screen

Dell Alienware is a portable high performance gaming laptop without sacrifice the dimension .

However, the weight of Alienware 15 R2 is 3.2KG is much more heavier than Dell Inspiron 15 7000, not as easy as just slot into backpack.

But again Dell Alienware does not have Intel Realsense Camera or 4K UHD touchscreen, a disappointment when other Dell laptops having better specs at cheaper pricing.

Is Dell inspiron 15 7000's 4K screen better or Alienware 15 R2 laptop's 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 220-nits Display better?

since both 15inch screen good to compare in the same screen size

Yes even though both are 15" screen, but Inspiron 15 7000 with 4K UHD display will definitely be better than Alienware 15 R2's 1080p screen. The former has better PPI (pixels per inch) so it will look much sharper and crisp.

Alienware 15 weight about 3.2kg and Alienware 17 weight 3.8kg. Base on past experience with carry old Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop which has similar weight, u wanna carry the Alienware laptop around is not that easy weight will be definitely one of its cons. Maybe opt for Alienware 13 than buy a good monitor

Alienware R3 laptop though performances higher than Dell Inspiron 15 7000 but the price and weight was almost double ~

bringing out Alienware R3 17" laptop in public transport is like carrying a bag of rice~

:s13: mosmos don't so bad, say until Dell Alienware R3 laptop is akin to bag of rice. I think it's like saf signal set la. At least Alienware can pak game, listen to songs, surf webs and chat on HWZ  :o

to me, the biggest concern is actually the price because i wouldn't mind if it was half the price. then again, it will never happen for that kind of specs :(

just noticed alienware 15 r2 lowest spec comes with 6300hq processor and 965m 2gb gpu
i guess the reason why SG dell don't bring in 6300hq processor for the inspiron 15 7000 is to not spoil market for this alienware model.

the inspiron with 6300hq easily cost lesser than sgd1500 overseas.
sure it doesn't make sense for normal consumers to pay about sgd700 for alienware which is heavier, slightly better gaming experience(maybe?)

Not to mention, the Alienware Graphic Amplifier does not come with any gpu, so you need to spend more money (or use your spare/old/existing gpu) :s22:

Wah seems like quite a fair bit of things to take note of for Dell Alienware laptop.

No wonder the design is so special. Seems like this is really meant for the hardcore gamers!

My advice is to save all your work first before plugging out traditionally like in the old days, treating it like your laptop power supply.

Not simple this machine :o

like that mean the moment you pull the Alienware laptop plug than the computer will triggle shutdown
