It's because LG want to put 2K/QHD display on the G3 but as of right now only 5.5inch and above 2K display are in bulk production. 5.5 inch and below got to wait to end year/early next year then start producing.

Below 5.5inch simply do not need QHD...it's like a 21" 4K LCD tv...you simply can't tell the difference:D

Quite difficult. G2 with 5.2" screen is already a technology marvel to cramp such a big size screen in a small body.

From the leaks, the unibody design seems to have more bezels at the sides. I really hope they remain at 5.2". If 5.5" and without removable battery and sdcard slot, its a miss for me then.

Last time android was attractive and flexible as it has removable batt and sdcard slot whereas the fruit phone doesnt. Now it really makes me reconsider going back to fruit when they launch a 4.7" phone.

I can't speak for everyone but 5.5 inches is definitely too big for me. I find the G2's design to be extremely sexy, just that I don't really like the plastic build and volume controls on the back. But I really like the bezel-to-screen-size ratio. I am a fan of thin bezels.

Currently, I'm using the HTC One M8 and I find the size of the phone to be just nice. If HTC had shrunk the bezels, the size could probably fit a 5.2inch screen. But 5.5inch screen is really too big, even if the bezels are almost non-existent.
I think it is a matter of personal preference and it is all very subjective. For me, I don't like huge phones but I don't actually find the One M8 to be big, unlike some people. I don't find the G2 to be big as well, in fact I think the size is perfect. I do find it to be a bit long, but it's not that bad. I find the Galaxy Note 3 to be big. What is a big phone to Person A might not necessarily be a big phone to Person B. Likewise, Person A might prefer big phones while Person B might prefer smaller phones. To each his own, I guess.

Having said that, here is what I feel LG can do to improve on last year's G2.

- Keep the phone the same size, with the same screen size and bezels.
- Move the volume buttons to the side without making the bezels larger (Not sure whether this is even possible)
- Snapdragon 805 and 3GB of RAM
- 32gb onboard storage + microsd expansion up to 128gb (Like the Galaxy S5)

Last year, they boasted about the LG G2's music playing capabilities, saying that it supports 24bit FLAC, which are hires audio files which are very large in size. But what's the point of having that capability when they gave us only 32gb of storage with no microsd card slot? I was really interested in getting the G2 as I am an audiophile and have a huge library of HiRes FLAC files but was disappointed with their choice to only give us 32gb. I mean come on! One FLAC album can easily be around 300+MB. Not to mention we would be installing apps and OS updates and the space the OS already takes up out of the box.

The only thing I'm seriously, seriously pissed off about is the amount of storage space that all the Android OEMS give us. HTC does it, Sony does it, LG does it Xiaomi does it and the list goes on...
Apple gives us a choice of 32 and 64gb but they are grossly overcharging us!
We continually get better screens, better processors, better cameras, better user interfaces but the amount of storage space that we are getting has stayed stagnant for so many years :s11:

Some people might have read my posts on other threads and have seen me nitpicking on phones like the S5 and even the phone I'm using right now, the One M8. Truth is, I'm a very fussy person and I would say I'm quite anal so to me there is no perfect phone. There is always a flaw :s13: The hunt for the perfect phone continues... :s8:

If one uses the phone mainly for simple tasks like texting and make calls, then 4.7" to 5.0" might be just right. :)

On the other hand, if one uses the phone mainly and frequently for social apps or apps with rich graphical contents as well as playing games, then 5.5" is the minimum screen size for one to truly enjoy it! :s13:

So, one stone cannot kill 2 birds in this case bah...:s8:

It is very much depending on your usage. :s22:

I agree with you, esp so if you drive. Its really a pain in the axx to try use the phone with one hand to manipulate and make a call or activate gps for navigating. I find 5" is the max my hand can go to reach most of the screen without shuffling around with it. Try pulling down the notification page or pressing the back button on a note3 with one hand and thats the feeling i hate.

G2 5.2" is still managable as it has on screen buttons.

I used to be a sucker for note, note2 and note3 but after having them sticking to my balls while inside my pocket of business pants when sitting down, i gave up and also not nice when meeting clients with a erected item clearly visible from the pants.

Manufacturers should stop all the nonsense of never ending growing of screen size without a demand or useful need for it and keeps giving smaller screen lousy screen and cpu and ram.

Check out the LG version for AU, Japanese carrier.
Comes with MicroSD slot (up tp 64GB), and volume buttons at the side.
Battery not removable though. CPU same as G2.

isai LGL22 | Smartphones | au

For storage, the push seemed to be getting users to use cloud storage, meaning additional revenue for the whole value chain from OS providers to storage providers and mobile operators. It gets the user locked down to the handset if you store a lot of your stuff on their cloud network.

The issue is not about whether there is microsdcard slot. Its why internal storage is so pathetically same as per 10yrs ago. 16gb no longer cut it for 2014. Apps or games easily can be 1gb size and they keep giving us most powerful cpu or gpu for what?

64gb or 128gb should be the standard for all phones now.

We cant install and load apps in/from the cloud right?

There is the Mini version for those who dont like the big sizes.

Looking forward to this phone.
Using S4 now but it seems the 5" screen is feeling a bit small after using for a year.

The option of a mini version is good except that we gotta compromise on the specs.

I'm fine with non-removable battery but a micro-SD card slot can't be missed. I agree with you guys that the on-board storage is paltry with regards to today's usage. When it comes to storage, more is definitely better if we're constantly on the move and require access to our files/documents locally. However, it is also a source of profit for the manufacturers too, unfortunately.

I honestly can't wait for the phone to be officially unveiled on 27 May. Hopefully it does have the Snap 805 instead of the same 800 chipset of G2.

you can go for rotten fruit :s13:

Even they are also following the trend soon. But then a 4.7" ip6 seems very attractive and will definitely sway lots of andriod users back since android phones are getting bigger, lack of sdcard, no removable batts. No flash on websites and more restrictions on usage od sdcard. All the advantages of android.vanishes and apple just need to giveus a adequately big screen to attracts us again.

One reason is to keep the cost low, or able to differentiate between models, though I suspect one would argue the case of cost difference of 16G vs 32G. Maybe 32G can be the baseline model going forward, and then 64G or even 128G as other variants.

With less memory, it sort of drive developers to be more efficient.
Remember the days of hardware not talking to software, and all of us ended up getting bigger and bigger HDDs because its getting cheaper? With this mindset, there is no incentive for developers to develop efficient coding, and simply create bloatware. Hopefully, with lesser memory, it gets everybody more conscious. I, for one, would hope that software on mobile platform does not become like bloatware on desktop, where software developers simply leave it to hardware developers to sort out storage and CPU processing power issues.

As for apps running from cloud, think Microsoft Office365 or Google Docs. Less than 12 months ago, who would have thought of running apps in this manner? But of course there are also offline version now that they realize connectivity is not always a given worldwide.

Cloud storage is not viable for many uses, such as streaming of HiRes music, as well as High resolution videos. Unless we have unlimited data plan. But then again, we would also need highly stable connection. I don't even get 4G connection sometimes.

Like you said, it would be good if they offer us choices of 32, 64 and 128gb.

This is EXACTLY the reason why I was so pissed off that HTC decided to bring only the 16gb variant of the M8 here.

Like you, I was a sucker for the Note 2. Got it, used it, hated it and sold it off. I have sworn off phablets ever since then. For me, a phone has to have good one-handed operation and easily slot into my pocket without making me uncomfortable. Phablets are too large, it gets really uncomfortable having them in your pocket when you're sitting down, at least in my experience.

I feel that Android manufacturers really have their priorities screwed up.
I think they have overestimated the demand for large phones. Ok, maybe we want phones with large screens, but not COMICALLY large. They have completely sacrificed the ergonomics of the phone to give us a large screen. I know a lot of people who share the sentiments as me.
These days, all Android flagships come with 5" and above screens, while smaller phones get pathetic specifications. This is why I think the iPhone 5s is so popular with consumers. It delivers a flagship experience with a easily accessible design. There are rumors of both a flagship 4.7" and 5.5/5.7" iPhones. If this proves to be true, then Apple has really made a smart choice. It decided to make a larger phone, but not that large so as not to alienate users who don't want and need a phablet. It then has a phablet to cater to those who want large phones.

Coming back to the topic of Android manufacturers having screwed up priorities, another example would be the gimmicks they come up with to market their products. I don't want to name names here.

Oh, and what about giving us 1080p screens but still giving us the same paltry 16gb of storage for so many years. With a 1080p screen and advanced specifications, users would naturally want to install sophisticated apps and games that take advantage of the hardware. Some apps/games can be over 1Gb! How the hell are we supposed to do that with only 16gb of storage? I know often, there is microsd card expansion but I'd rather have more onboard storage.

Seriously, Android manufacturers need to get their s**t together or else my next phone is going to be an iPhone.
And yes, I do know that Apple grossly overcharges for storage, but I'm willing to pay for what I really want.
