Mobile Tech Review - Smackdown S6 Edge vs LG G4.

It seems that they have a very close fight, but she seems to be leaning more towards the edge.

I'm still leaning towards the G4 because it's quite much cheaper (32 internal + 32 external cheaper than edge price + 64 internal), has a leather back (the edge's back doesn't really look that nice :/), better handling (clear win to me), "only-slightly" better low-light camera (well, it's samsung giant you're competing, you can't really edge over leap and bounds), BACK BUTTON (seriously, why is samsung still not putting its back button on the left?? every of my other phones have its back button on the left!!!), decent speakers (g4 looks like the closest phone that could compete with m9. though m7/8/9's speakers are just too damn good for comparison), more screen estate (a QHD is an overkill, trust me. you can't fully optimise a FHD screen let alone a QHD screen on a 5 inch display. you really need to squint to tell the difference. a 5.5 inch display would be better to enjoy the QHD display)

The reasons which "might" lead me to edge:
- significant battery usage, much faster charging time (to me the removable battery is a gimmick, i've never used a removable battery. who charges 2 battery, and still remembers charging them faithfully? well, not me. i use a xiaomi powerbank.)
- video (the edge smokes any other phones out there in the market by at least 2 tiers ahead. i'm serious.)

Just my 2-cents worth. :)

Eh.. no idea, i've read the user review from somewhere else.. i also don't have friend who owned G3... so don't know how good is the phone....

Here is an episode with the same mindset regarding
removable battery. All who prefer removable battery
will know better that the things said are not true at all.

Here it is:

Removable battery
Pros
- replace battery easily

Cons
- have to carry a separate battery if you want extra
juice
- phone breaks apart when drop accidentally drop.
- extra battery is expensive
- frequent opening of back cover to replace battery or
taking it out temporarily when phone hangs may cause
battery contacts to loosen.

Non-removable battery
Pros
- phone build is solid. It won't explode to pieces
when accidentally drop it - although it may suffer
some dents just like any other phone.
- no worries about battery contacts getting loose over time.

Cons
- cannot replace battery - have to bring it to a service
center. However there is an alternative - powerbank to
provide the juice. Buy a cheap powerbank to have that
extra juice.

We all know so well that a powerbank is not only bulky and
heavy but it is more than 10x the size of an extra battery.
Did we not know the urgency when we are charging
our phone with a powerbank especially in public places?

To replace the battery takes less than 30 seconds and how
will it takes for the battery to be fully charge with a powerbank?

For me, I will take into consideration about the warranty.

The warranty for Samsung mobile phone battery is 6 months. I am not sure about S6 and S6 Edge since they do not have removable battery.

Quite a few friends and family members have commented that pictures of them always 'don't look good' on my G3, and ask me to use other phones - so I'm back to using my Xperia Z2 which does much better in this regard.

Does the G4 suffer from the same problem from your experience so far? If so, I'll think twice before getting one.

Are you talking about front or back camera?
I haven't got the chance to take group photo at low light setting, will check for you if given the chance ;) so far my pictures are all outdoor shot of scenery. Front camera is great for bright area, quality suffered a bit under low light condition though, it's pretty common for front camera. Do show me the example of your "awful & sickly" pic probably through PM and I'll see if there's same issue or not.

non removable battery caused strain to battery by keep using portable charger because it's consistently on & off charging. I do have a xiaomi charger with me, but it's just in case for emergency, normally I'll just try to minimized the usage to tahan more until I reach home & able to connect charger to charge it full.

Is it very processed? o_o Looks alright to me. Maybe the RAW photos would be better for you (but it'd require time to edit)

Some shots from the G4 are better than the S6 and some shots from the S6 are better than the G4. The "fight" looks kinda even to me. I'd put the iPhone 6 below both of them.

Not putting you down or anything though! To each his own :)

yea i understand each to its own no worries bud.

i was viewing fullscreen on a 21" monitor,
the noise became very obvious for g4 when full screen for most of the night shots. and color is more saturated than the other 2 phone.

viewing on phone, all looks acceptable for me though.

every lowlight processing will result in grainy pics, the photographer makes the diff, if you focus well on the brightest part of the area, it will reduce the grainy effect as it takes as much light from the focused light source.

i feel lg laser focus is the world difference here, makes noobs like pros!

Actually with more and more phones using non removable batteries nowadays, I douBT this is really a dealbreaker.

so i don't know if its fair to compare g4 and s6 in terms of handling. bigger form factor naturally not as good handling.

i love the glass rear back of the s6, but the leather back of the s6 has its own plus point as well.

my sweet spot upped from 5 to 5.2", I dunno I can accept 5.5" or not...
