Most likely they can't detect the boot loader is unlocked as what they will write in the service report is the motherboard broken and change the motherboard

Will send in my phone for repair tomorrow. Most likely they would not recognise the warranty since bootloader has been unlocked. Wonder how much they will charge to replace the motherboard :(

I had a bad experience with htc phone previous (that got issue every 2 months) that I got a secondary phone Moto G dual sim in my bag as backup these days.
Actually, I've got a backup phone already with almost identical settings and apps in it. Just need to swap over sim n sd card if G4 fails. Similarly like you, I have fallen too many times. So a backup phone and backups of the contents of your existing phone is a must.

every 2 months?
Care to share what happened to your previous phone?

But it's nice having a spare phone in hand just for those *touchwood* occasions.
The G is pretty nice - it's one of those phones that has a reliable and hardy feel to it - I just wish that Motorola brings in more of their phones and market it on the local market as an alternative

Usually, the counter staff may not notice anything but its the technical ones who repair the phone may find the abnomaly. Am quite curious too, about this bootloader issue.

because they are spare parts, salvaged from any kind of sources...
No, I don't think so. It's a new board, they will change the sticker inside your phone indicating a new serial no. Mine previously was 505 now its 512
