Well done LG! I don't wish to see bootloop again!

what does the teardown have to do with bootloop

LG G5 vs S7 Edge

for those still considering or havent decide:s12:

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g5_vs_samsung_galaxy_s7_low_light-review-1420.php

The auto mode shots on the S7 at outdoor night condition looks abnormally bad. i dont understand how its auto mode is so stubborn and wants to force 1/30 shutter speed. The LG one at least, is willing to open the shutter a lot longer under auto mode and is way more sensible than the G4, which under Auto mode in similar conditions, does open shutter for 1/10 but sets the ISO to moronic levels (4-digit figure)

shame they didnt do a manual mode comparison, I think in that scenario the outdoor night shots will be more evenly matched.

today i stopped by a shop to check out for the first time the Samsung S7's manual mode

I'll have to say its still nowhere close to how LG designs their UI for manual mode and am convinced LG still does manual best.

The immediate pet peeve is their sliders for ISO and Shutter speed is a fixed length slider with only labels at certain points, rather than something like a scrollbar with indicators on each stop of ISO/shutter level that you can pick.

Even worse is that Samsung made those sliders vertical, so for example for manual shutter you have something like 1/2000s on one end, and 10s on the other end, and you have to move so carefully and surgically to hit the shutter speed you want, on a slider that is only 3-4cm long vertically given the phone size.

If you look at how the smart app developers do it on apps like Camera FV5 or Proshot, all of them do it like LG did with the scrolling bar. the only app I know that made the same mistake as Samsung is Open Camera, who uses fixed length sliders for everything and after the G4 updated to V10d, the slider became so squeezy i swore off manual mode on Open Camera.

Usually a fixed length slider suits things like focus and zoom. if you have a huge range of points, squeezing them onto a fixed slider on a little 5 inch screen can be disastrous. A slight move of your finger could mean the difference between 1/30 and 1/60 shutter speed

FYI, no need to "slide", can just use the arrow keys on either end to accurately move from 1 shutter speed to another

but doesnt that feel slower?

its like youre web browsing and you wanna scroll down but instead of being able to drag the slider on the scrollbar, you have to keep mouse-clicking the down arrow

also because the slider doesnt show every shutter speed available, you have to guess roughly at where you want to stop when you're scrolling, so you'd tap somewhere on the slider that you hope is near enough to the shutter speed you want, and then jab the arrow key till you're there?

Just trying to say, if you want to show off g5 manual mode, there are more "easier" features to highlight.

You'll look less like a LG staff or social influence r that way :)

Im not interested in selling the G5's manual mode to anyone. I dont need to find something thats easy for the layman to understand because I am not speaking to the layman. The layman shoots in auto all the time and couldnt care less if the manual exposure were controlled via a fixed slider, scrollbar or round dial.

Honestly as a G4 user, I dont even use the G4's stock camera app that much anyway (except for panorama). Other apps like Camera FV5 have more choices of shutter speed timing, and some like Proshot can even do things like disable the noise reduction, which is hyper aggressive on the G4 at lower ISO

Saw the G5 in M1 today and found that the gap between the battery slot and the main unit is quite obvious.

This is a quality issue. I guess I will go with V10.

Sometimes we comes across our path envy being the greatest
sin because they didn't know how to take regular excercise and
eat foods which nourish their mind.

I was pinpoint straight to the point many times in this forum
that being a staff of LG is the answer to our positive thoughts
on a product that is worth our words. Thanks them anyway
for they know not what they were saying.

chiaRH brother, your contributions have been a great help to
those who are new to using LG. I was doing it too, but was
shot down often that I was working for LG. :(

As we continue to try to help everybody else to enjoy the
devices better, getting feedback is a gift to LG as well
as everyone coming to this forum for more information.

I remember the truth about feedback given by one of the

I saw it at Punggol Waterway Point.

I waited 3 months for this phone and it turn out quite disappointing.

#1 i am not your brother

#2 your posts are still filled with unnecessary hyperbole and I 100% agree with all the people in the past who accused you of sounding too much like a LG fanboy. For example in the past when people were complaining about the removal of app drawer and then someone linked that MWC video saying the drawer can be put back, you immediately jump to LG's defense while disregarding that the so-called "solution" in the video was Easy Home, which turns the phone into 'senior citizen mode' with giant icons and no widgets.

#3 We dont need people to encourage us to like a product or be optmistic, look on the bright side etc. Every merit (like the camera) and every flaw (like the lack of battery capacity improvement after 3 generations) is subject to its due praise, and its due criticism respectively.

Bugis Junction and Waterway Point M1 have it.

Both each have 2 LG pedestals with 2 phones per pedestal, and they are tucked away in the far corner because nobody cares about LG. You can tell if a M1 outlet has the G5 on display because the display pedestals are beside a wall with a huge "life's good when you play more" logo

I wouldnt say its a totally bad phone, its just that it's not a compelling upgrade if you already own last year's flagship G4, unless you really really need that wide angle lens or that modules.

To be fair though, all flagships are starting to suffer that trend. Given their price tag it really is no longer sensibly worthwhile to purchase 2 generations back to back. Maybe for the S6 to S7, an argument can still be made for the return of microSD and waterproofing but if you already own the S6, would you drop several hundred just to get those 2 features?

i think the gap is part of the design for the bottom to be removable. need some gap for expansion fitting. cannot be entirely flush one

But of course gap will allow for dust and worse, water will go in and short circuit the battery. :(
Putting a case will be nearly compulsory in this case :p

i think its like a USB plug that when you plug into the port, but you can see some part of the metal plug still visible.

Still dont really know is this intentional design by LG or not. if you saw the ifixit teardown, when you press in the module and battery, its pushing against a spring, and likewise when you hit the release button, the spring push out against the battery, allowing removal sort of like a Note 5 s-pen. But this spring action may also be the reason the bottom cap cant sit flush as it might be continually pushing out the battery, and only stopped by the release catch.

The only way to really test this is take a cap that has no battery attached, and put it on the G5, and see if there is still a gap. Maybe the edge of the bottom cap should have had a gasket or something for a more gapless seal?

Worst part now is that standard case won't fit if you wanna make use of the friends. Even the b&o DAC is slightly longer than the standard. Unless custom make case or there is enough demand that ppl will mass produce cases to fit the friends as well.

what does the teardown have to do with bootloop

I mean the phone is easy to repair.. So LG has done a good job.. Bootloop is just a tongue in cheek remark. It got nothing to do with tear down. :p
