Yup, HDR+ is a must for low light. I am not seeing purple cast so far, not sure. Took those pics under room lighting condition, not very bright.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6t4i0x/google_camera_with_hdr_ported_to_snapdragon/

The person Aucread on that thread also mentions purple on G6 when trying the HDR+ in low light

Oneplus owners seem to have the best experiences with the app, though not sure is it due to statistical number of oneplus owners who tried the app

btw if you want to demonstrate the purple tint on the HDR+ easily, lay the G6 camera facing down on a table and take a photo. With other camera apps, it will look pure black maybe with some grain noise. With the HDR+ it will look like dark purple static

How do you download the Google cam app on your G6 bro? Interested to test the app. *********

Very good app! Seems better than stock app in terms of processing.

We're comparing Google vs LG image processing algorithm. Very obvious outcome. However, I am pretty sure it's not performing at its 100% like on Pixel/Nexus.

It's also still very unstable, barely usable, always FC/crashed and also very long delays at times when taking pic from the time the shutter button is pressed till it's actually taking the pic.

Do you think lg will fix these issues in the upcoming updates?

Anyone encountering lag on the G6? When I change app, sometimes simple apps like WhatsApp, take very long to open and read the message. Have to kill app. Than re-open the app again. Tried factory reset. Still the same issue.

that app is not a LG app its a modified google camera app, LG doesnt need to do anything

I meant the stock camera over processing algorithm.. Tried the S8 and P10 plus and camera quality looks better at times too..

oh that they wont change im sure. they probably think its the kind of processing that people want

remember that after 7 generations of galaxy S, samsung still thinks people like the juicy saturated sharp photo look instead of 'natural but boring' colours, and they dont even give an option to choose (not like how the AMOLED display can choose a more natural colour profile)

If you look at the comparison article in DxOMark, all those issues that are seen here are mentioned in the article, e.g. over-sharpening, noise, auto-focus:

https://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/2017-smartphone-cameras-as-good-as-never-before

For auto focus, it seems that it is better to use manual trigger in bright light but auto mode in low light. I find that the noise level even in bright light not good at all, if I project the picture on the TV, I can see the noise on the person face if I stand close enough.

Thanks for sharing the link. Ouch, G6 getting battered, coming in last in almost all categories. But i have to agree with the observations as it confirm my own experience with the G6 camera. Though that being said, I think the main cam is still capable of getting good shots when it gets it right, and the wide angle shooting experience is really second-to-none.

Yes, i have that problem, esp with Whatsapp, after the recent update. More lag and freezes. However, battery life seems to have improved.

so far for me, my interim solution for the sharpness problem is to use the Snap Camera, its the only app with the option to de-sharpen (it can also tweak saturation, contrast etc) but it comes with its own set of problems. The latest version, 8.2.7 (from XDA, play store version very outdated) is broken in Camera 2 API mode and shots have a jitter effect upon hitting shutter, so I cant use Camera 2 API on it (means no manual mode, but minor loss cos manual UI sucks on that app anyway)

Maybe it's time you do some housekeeping. If you have a lot of media such as pictures, videos, voice notes. It will eventually be big and would cause lag. It is especially true if you are in group chats where everyone posted pics, videos and what not. Maybe clear/delete some pics, videos and voice notes should reduce some lags you are experiencing.
