So... seems like I am also one of first to have my faulty G6 repaired under warranty for a faulty screen
Fortunately LG has quick turnaround service, but it is still annoying to have to re-load everything onto the phone, and to know that my brand new phone has already been opened and fixed
Seems like the LG QC issues may still be there (for me at least, having had an LG V10 that has bootlooped in the past, an LG watch with screen issues, and an LG with LED image retention issues). The issues of the v20 slowing down after some time also seem to be creeping in with the G6, the camera being a perfect example where it takes a couple of seconds before you are ready to change between narrow / wide or to take a shot.
Sigh. So far having had a Xiaomi MIX, Mate 9, V20, G6 etc. in the last few months, I've been most impressed with the MIX. Can't wait for the version 2 to be launched. The Mate 9 also feels a lot quicker than the G6 on a comparable basis (I have two of them in front of me, with exactly the same content on each).
The G6 also still has basic features missing. For example, the 'night time' mode (that cuts blue light) has an automatic timer on both the Mate 9 and MIX. But on the G6 you manually have to enable it every single night, then turn it off in the morning. Likewise the other two phones have a much better implementation of 'second space' user profiles vs. the G6 which relies on the slow and cumbersome Google profiles to swap between (complete with a mandatory 60 second wait to swap back). It is also worth noting that LG doesn't really have any good VR accessories in place, and despite this being a new phone, is not compatible with Google Daydream. Lost opportunity.
On a more personal note, I am also not sold on the 1:2 screen ratio. In the end, most apps / games don't use the screen estate. And in the end you're left with a narrower than normal view that makes it feel more like the phone is 5". The normal ratio still has benefits, and I hope that this 1:2 trend doesn't perpetuate past the current generation of phones.
In the end, the G6's saving grace is a high quality wide angle camera... and for me that's about it. Everything else the competition can already do, and in many cases, do better.
Just my two cents. You mileage may vary![]()
