Sharing my review of the phone here. Overall, quite like the phone surprisingly. Yes, it's not going to win the Galaxy S8 in most aspects, but it does have a few things going for it. It does all of the basics well at a cheaper price. Also the use of the flat glass is a great move too, so for folks who don't like curved edges, the G6 provides a really nice alternative to the S8.

Other than some minor complaints about the software design (some of which can be tweaked), it's a pretty nice phone to use day to day. The display is good looking, the design of the phone is really nice, feels nicer to hold in hand compared to S8, the performance is decent enough, battery life is better compared to the S8 for me, the camera performs well enough, and has water resistance too.

For the folks who wants to use it as music player, there's the Quad-DAC too. I can hear the difference even on cheap IEMs, but I mostly use bluetooth anyway. Also the fingerprint sensor is not only in a better position, it's more reliable compared to the S8's too.

Overall, a solid effort from LG here. Hopefully They can keep this up on the hardware side of things, but they really need to get better at making software... :s13:

Video review for those who those who are interested.
Good review. After hearing the quad dac, i think the dac on htc10 is still superior. Should try it if you havent.

Haven't used G4 before, but as a former user of LG V10 and V20, I can say my current G6 is better than those two.

If you can elaborate why, it will help those currently looking at G6 as future phone.

You're living the right life. Lol. Unlike us where our phones are glued to our hands.😂

im currently using g4 too, thinking of jumping over to g6. care to provide more insights on the experience?

im also a G4 user who converted to a G6

I have 4 things I dislike which are largely subjective anyway:

- G6 has no notification LED

- The removable back and battery are gone.

- The glass material of the G6. While a case can cover the glass back, the fingerprint reader is also made of glass, meaning the thing that senses your fingerprints is made of a material that accumulates smudges over time and loses accuracy. But its still better than the G4 which dont even have fingerprint reader. That being said a phone is a utility tool to me so a phone made of glass IMO is still as dumb as a laptop or DSLR made of glass.

- The main camera of the G6 is to the right, so when you hold it in landscape you have to be careful not to get your finger caught in the frame when taking photos. All other phones have their cameras centralised or toward the left corner to avoid this.

Other than that the G6 does feel like a improvement over the G4, especially in battery life. If you like to use your phone one handed the G6 will also handle much easier. I will not call the quad dac an 'improvement' unless it means something to you as a 'serious audio person'

The glass back is because of the wireless charging. All phones with this feature have this. But since they removed this feature in Asia set, they should have opted to put same material as V20. Well, maybe it's just to make it uniform across all devices. And no extra effort on manufacturing. We cannot really tell. 😀

wow, thanks for the sharing. really looking forward to better battery life esp without the removable battery option on g6.

could you share your experience with the front facing camera. many commented that g6 ffc is a letdown. how does it compare to the g4's? not a frequent selfie user but ffc still impt for video call and stuff.

and, is g6 really using eMMC. not even lottery for ufs 2.0/2.1 like p10/+
:s22:

thanks

No, the FP is plastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ9rQ6yI04c

:s22:

P10 is a lottery of eMMC/UFS 2.0/2.1, not just UFS 2.0/2.1. In fact, P10 does not just have storage lottery, but also got RAM lottery. A quote:

After Huawei marketed the P10 and P10 Plus, the company had stated that the new smartphones come with UFS 2.1 storage and LPDDR4 RAM, but some customers noticed that their units featured LPRDDR3 RAM and UFS 2.0 or eMMC 5.1.

S8 is the one with UFS 2.0/2.1 lottery.

Havent heard of any outside-china received a EMMC though. same goes to DDR3 ram.

Basically the SG (Exynos) sets are 2.1 :)

Quote:
Samsung UFS 2.1:
All Exynos Models -> S8 / S8+
Toshiba UFS 2.1:
Snapdragon Model -> S8+ ONLY.
Toshiba UFS 2.0:
Snapdragon Model -> S8 ONLY.

thanks for sharing, i actually assumed it was also glass

still hate how its gloss though. G5 power button was at least matte

If you really need a good front camera I suggest huawei or samsung as they are the ones who actually made improvements to image quality for front camera

But quality is a photography thing. Video calls dont need to be that high quality IMO. The G6 will suffice as long as it is in good lighting I guess.

wonder if all this flash storage drama suddenly made androbench one of the most popular apps on play store...

Anyway my androbench says 422.73 Mbps, maybe its cos I keep all my data on microSD but I guess the speed of the internal storage isnt as much of a concern to me since Im bottlenecked by microSD speeds anyway.

Haha you bet, and the Material Terminal app.

These could have been avoided if they are all transparent to users. Gone those days that they can hide these informations. Now there are apps to know all the component details even the manufacturer used.
