Taiwan only show this movie for 2 days which was what I last know.
Dunno whether they extend the showing days.
To win the award, the director need to take part in the competition.

I don’t know what criteria needed to qualify for Golden Horse. Am also surprised with their political restrictions on mainland movies

I dun think the taiwan side really restrict any tiong movie submission.
It is the tiong movie director who are hesitant to nominate their movie.
(Dun think he want to offend any movie commission back home.)
That is my understanding.

I went with anticipation that i will cry a lot but one of the very few scenes that broke me was the one in the remittance centre.. father urgently sending money back home to buy back daughter the family had sold...

I'm still ok on this part. I really can't control my tears in the last part, tot 南枝 already forgotten everything till she ask whether did they received the salty meat...

I watched the Mandarin Chinese version, it was quite painful to watch because the film reminds me of my late grandparents and the hardship they went through to come to Singapore and settle down. No regrets watching this movie, it's really quite nostalgic.

after watching the Teochew version, boy, I was impressed …

dialogue amusing and comical, storyline touching

Tiong awards would be like their talent shows, very 誇張 and self-serving one. Make themselves happy and proud, but mean nothing to the world.

To me, the only award of weight for Chinese movies is Golden Horse. Because it is established and well-regarded, and it is open to all movies made in Chinese languages, from any country.
