helping my friend to build a computer to play games such as Counterstrike, Command and Conquer, Tera and Maplestory. Budget $1k ~ $1.5k

Here is what i put in, need some expert comments:

CPU + MOBO: i5-6500 + Gigabyte GA-B150M-DV3 DDR3 $437

RAM: G.Skill PC 12800/1600mhz DDR3 CL11 Value Ram $80

SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB $159

HDD: Western.D 1TB Blue 64mb SATA3 $72

GPU: Leadtek GTX 1050 TI 4GB DDR5 $229

Casing: Any recommendation?

PSU: FSP 550W 80+ Hexa Plus $68


Total dmg (without case): $1,045

If possible, which areas can i reduce the cost? Because still need to get monitor, mouse and kb.

maximize your budget, you can get something like my specs, just change the psu will do. i got mine for free, so i lazy get new one. would recommend fsp hexa+ for cheap and adequate or if you're willing to spend a little bit more, superflower leadex.

my friend is clueless about all this, so i offered to help him. Not like im a pro either

HDD: Western.D 1TB Blue 64mb SATA3 $72

GPU: Leadtek GTX 1050 TI 4GB DDR5 $229

Casing: Techware F3 $49

PSU: FSP 550W 80+ Hexa Plus $68

Windows 7 Pro 64bit: $219


Total dmg: $1,211

If really have to, may consider dropping from i5 to i3

Since you're within budget, don't down to i3. If can up your gpu to gtx 1060. If your friend happen to have venture to higher end title, the 1060 can still handle it pretty well. Plus i5 and gtx 1060 is the sweet spot for performance per cost, you get the most out of what you paid for. For the gtx 1060 go check palit dual from Qoo10 or lazada for cheaper prices.

As for the Asrock mobo, I think the it3 you mentioned is an itx mobo? Coz the hdv I see from Asrock site is a normal mATX while I can't find it3

bro i can easily save further if i wanted to. but i dun think i want to help further already. using a friend as a lab rat for learning how to build pcs when he himself has no idea how to do so and balance performance is just... screwed up.

and this rig performance is definitely better than his one.

I started out by working together with my cousin and friends while they build and learn one step at a time before building one (spec at right) for my friend. By then I have enough experience already so everything went smoothly (except pricing) using his rig as my test rig, with his permission of course.

Have yet to build my personal one but hopefully this year when 1080 ti is out hahaha

not right. what if something goes wrong during the building process (common thing that happens is when someone forgets to install the standoffs onto the casing). and the thing is u probably went to do some self research and stuff before coming to the conclusion.

Can't deny that. Even the most veteran builders also will forget standoffs. Hahaha

Suggestion for ts, watch some pc building video on YouTube. Suggest pcpartpicker channel. Find it adequate for beginner. Know your stuff before building one yourself. Don't venture blindly. Of coz you can always ask here if you have problem. All the best.
