Light Gaming + Work Rig

Hello, it has come to it that my desktop finally died

and i'm gonna build a new system for 2017. for light gaming (starcraft 2) and data work

Here are my components. I seek experts' advice from this forum. thank you very much in advance!

Budget around $1600



CPU: i7-6700 (for work, need the threads)

MOBO: MSI B150M Bazooka Plus Gaming (for sata and usb ports over H110): $602 with cpu

RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 2400mhz CL12 16GB kit: $155

SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB: $210 already bought

HDD: 1TB savaged from old desktop

GPU: Zotac 1060 6gb: $318 already bought

Casing: coolermaster <$100. Please recommend?

PSU: 80+ 650W: $Please recommend?




Already spent: $528, available left for CPU+MOBO+RAM+Casing+PSU = $1072

ram dun need anything higher than 2133 unless u overclocking. but then again if u like the aesthetics and dun mind paying slightly higher i would say go for it.

now not such a good time to buy mobo + cpu. wait for kabylake release. news is it arrived in sg already. sls will be selling them next month. also see if got amd ryzen. that could spark a price war.

i searched online and read that kabylake is poised for a 5 Jan 2017 launch. From your experience, does the launch hit our shores immediately?

also, seems like kabylake uses the same LGA 1151 chipset, if i'm not getting it, but getting the current gen, will there be any savings?

The current gen skylake might drop in price but I cannot be sure. At least wait and keep your options open if possible.

yes coolermaster are ok. u can consider getting CM hyper 212 from amazon less than 50 (but not sure of current pricing )

Cryorig m9i or h7 if can fit your casing. Otherwise c7 if you like stock cooler kind but dislike the stock cooler (which I do). Their coolers are easy to install plus includes a decent free thermal paste as well.

for all the upgrades from skylake to kabylake on 100 series mobo, it's only an additional of $10. seems like it's worth it?

what you guys think about my choice on mobo:

It's a balancing act. If you get the old one, you need a BIOS update containing Kabylake whitelist.

Also, any stepping will also have bugs, just major or minor. If its really bad, a company like Intel will probably do a voluntary recall.. for example

• Intel 5xx series sandforce SSDs got derated in encryption specs from aes256 aes to 128.
• TSX instructions disablement
• 8 series chipset c1 stepping usb 3.0 sleep Bug
  etc etc..

Just the nature of getting early batches of large scale manufactured products. Even skylake had the "freeze bug" earlier to launch
For peace of mind, maybe TS can get an already validated 100 series board with kabylake BIOS + KL CPU lor.
At least CPU distribution channel are more direct than mobos. Should there be really recalls (touchwood), better coverage. Don't think there's a correct or wrong answer regarding this matter.
