Linux Mint is decent and offers a easy transition from Windows
You can install on VMs first and see if u like it

that's why i dun wanna spend money buy new system just because of win11...

Got

But must pay money for extended support

also, for non corporate accounts, MS only offers to sell 1 year of extended support

Some corporate bulk users can buy up to 3 years of extended support

Linux is all well and good until something go wrong and u got to use the command line to fix. You will find certain instructions on the internet to cut and paste, then it will return error and you won't noe what succeeded or which part failed and what the current state of your Linus system is in. Eventually ish end up doing wipe and reinstall again. Easiest Linux I used dat didn't have dis issue was the one on Asus' Eee PC. It really worked well. U can experiment on the various flavours of Linux on your current PC using Virtual Machines. Windows itself already comes with one.
The canonical ones have software updates so it's much better now. Ubuntu is a good choice for those want something more straightforward

I also googled best Linux version always mint comes out at the top

But when using, I always encounter two annoying problems:

1) dual booting between Linux mint and Windows, the system clock will always be inaccurate (different by one day or so)

2) the Linux mint sound driver has this annoying click (driver initialization) whenever a sound is played. After a while, it gets on your nerves

The above two issues prevent me from switching to Linux mint permanently. I rather use Windows 10 without updates

Oh, if you install dual boot mode, sometimes Windows update will wipe the dual boot system files. Ended up have to reinstall Linux mint again. Annoying. Happens a few times.
yes. this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for....such annoyance.

for point 2 i read abt it...something like both win and linux system partition cannot be the same, win have a tendency to wipe the system partition for its windows update

windows like to overwrite MBR of its partition upon boot... so either use different partition for each OS or you need apply some kinda registry fix to stop windows doing this or use a GPT partition instead...
EDIT: turns out even GPT partitions are not safe... make the linux OS the default boot loader or use different drive partitions....

i like linux mint. i run it on one of my old PCs as a server. but i still think linux is designed for command line despite so many years of development. something about linux and their GUIs. forever buggy and crash easily. and for that, i dont recommend non techies to run linux. save yourself the headache, pay $20 for a win 11 home cd key.

If u want to dual boot, pls do myself a favour and install Linux on a totally separate disk...otherwise windows update sometimes will overwrite the boot manager.
Moi ish using Ubuntu desktop. Getting the games to work can sometimes be painful but Google can mostly give u answers to solve. Install lutris to manage your steam, gog, EA, ubisoft games.

I use Mint on an IBM Thinkpad from 15years ago, a write off company laptop - 3 Gb DDR2 RAM and 60Gb HDD. No complaints for running Python IDE and web browsing.

Probably not worth replacing Win11 with Mint on a newer spec laptop.
