Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists it is crucial the Reds do not keep selling their star players, if they are to achieve long-term success.

“There hasn’t been a successful team in world football who change their squad every year. You need to keep your key players. That’s a very important thing.

“You have to create a situation where you are successful. A situation where everyone feels in a good way and we are strong enough and patient enough to keep them together.

“We say that same squad and consistency creates success.

tell that to our owners...

Nett spend for current window is 15.4 million pounds. Ballotelli and Benteke not included. Not a whole lot of money.

Juventus and Liverpool are interested in Dahoud, and Jurgen Klopp is willing to offer €30m for his services. #lfc (@SPORTBILD)

Don't think Klopp will bring in another midfielder

I used to admire ManU for their squad, play and management. Now, that club seems like a lost and soul-less place.

On the contrary, LFC seems to be picking up momentum. Hopefully we can discover the next Gerrard and enjoy more successful seasons ahead.

I thought they felt quite the same. Apart from being manure, I watched them rise to the top and rebuilt their elite status. That club is lost but not soul-less, that I can agree. We mock and chide our rivals, but so much pride is at stake in our games.

For us, we have lost the elite status. Our fans and our club has generally lost the winners' pride. Seems to easily accept mediocrity when stacked against odds. I hope klopp brings back that lost pride to the club and fans. We should be strong, proud and walking.

Jonathan Woodgate joins Liverpool as part of scouting department
NewsJack Lusby on 11.08.2016

Former Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate has joined Liverpool as a scout.

The 36-year-old, who retired this summer after an 18-year senior playing career, has arrived as part of the Reds’ scouting department, and will be based in Spain and Portugal.

This sees Woodgate return the country that saw him turn out for La Liga giants Real Madrid between 2004 and 2007.

Woodgate was a cultured, intelligent centre-back whose career was miserably hampered by a number of injuries, limiting his appearances for the England national team to just eight.

Now, however, he will turn his attention to finding the latest talent to furnish Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad—though the German will be hoping acquisitions from Woodgate’s catchment area are more successful than those made of late.

Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Joao Carlos Teixeira, Tiago Ilori, Lazar Markovic, Alberto Moreno, Javier Manquillo and Aly Cissokho have all arrived at the club from either Spain or Portugal in recent seasons.

Only Moreno has established himself as a first-team regular, while there remain question marks over the left-back’s ability.

Furthermore, while Alberto, Markovic and Ilori are still with the club, the trio are widely believed to be on their way out this summer.

Aspas, Teixiera, Cissokho and Manquillo have all left Liverpool, with only the departure of the latter, whose two-season loan from Atletico Madrid was controversially terminated by Brendan Rodgers in 2015, can be considered a major disappointment.

Of the eight players signed by Klopp during his time at Anfield so far, four have arrived from Germany, three from England and one from Serbia, highlighting his approach to the market.

But in recent weeks Liverpool have been linked with a number of players from Spain, including a loan move for Real Madrid teenager Martin Odegaard and a £33 million bid for Sporting CP’s Portugal international midfielder Joao Mario.

Neither, however, are likely, but Woodgate’s arrival suggests Klopp is widening his search for future reinforcements.
