Loans to pay sch fee

Hi,

Basically i am starting my school term in UOL soon. I always thought that money wouldnt be a problem for my education but it seems that it has turn out to be.

Thus i would like your advice on this matter. I think the school fees of 5k+ would be payable soon (end aug) and i cant find a way to loan the money to pay off this sum.

These are the methods i tried:

Asking parents- my family is not very well to do and my father is a cab driver so i don't think it would be a good idea to burden them even more.

Obtaining a study loan- This method requires a guarantor which my father (sole bread winner) is unable to qualify for. We have been rejected at POSB probably due to his existing installments and loans.

Apply for a credit card- I have applied for the citi clear credit card in hopes of paying off the sum but i found out recently that the credit limit is only 500 dollars.

Increasing the limit of credit card- I worked part time during my holidays mainly teaching private tuition(~1k per month) but i cant produce a income statement to assist in this.

Would really like to hear some advice and help from you guys! Don't really wanna waste another year doing odd jobs after recently reaching ORD.

Does your parents have enough savings to help you pay? Does your parents have the "sacrifice ourselves for the sake of our child's future" mentality? If yes, go ahead and burden them. Just make sure you swear by your life to support them till their end and strive hard to earn a scholarship or sponsorship in later years.

Seek assistance from your school, is it SIMGE? I'm sure they have financial assistance schemes available to help relieve a little burden.

Else, study by yourself through UOL online resources and the materials they send you. For UOL degrees, you can apply directly to UOL.

If all else fails, give up the place and continue working until you have enough money.

Why not go for part time studies? Is it necessary for you to go for full time?

I am a part time student working and studying at the same time. My parents pay half of it and I pay the other half. My family is also not well to do, just enough to get by.

Note that I saved $7k in the army and I had that amount when I ORDed. Think about your expenditure whether was it necessary, forgo clubs, social parties if you have to.

I have survived 2 years just by saving up on unnecessary expenditures and working contractual jobs. It meant that I could leave job say after 6 months while still have enough money for school fees, monthly expenditure and savings for that few months before exams that I am not working.

I am in the exact same shoe as you, applied for SIM assistance but per capita set by SIM is $500 which apparently is too low for anyone to qualify.

I am now going for my last year, FYI. So it's not impossible.

I guess the only logical option for me now is to switch to part time and balance my time since i can't pay the full amount. Since you were able to sacrifice and save i guess its really possible. Being the same as you the last thing i wanna do is to burden my parents with this.

I take as my personal fault that i am unable to qualify for a local uni and i'm really regretting it right now due to the availability of subsidies in local unis.

Gonna read up more on part time degree and tahan in the meantime.

How about organizations life safra, mendaki (for Muslims) or cdac for Chinese? Friends? Relatives?
