Hi there.
You are interested in studying Supply Chain mgt?

Let me share w you what i have been through.
3years of specialized supply chain mgt training in Temasek Poly. Very very interesting at the start. But then things get ultra dry eventually.
The difficulty is manageable so long you revise everyday. However there's a challenge. It's a mixed of theory , art, creativity, and lots of maths.

You got to be sure you are in for it, cause it's something best to master entirely, then halfway giveup.

you will be able to enter almost all sectors, Entertainment Industry, Technology firms like Apple / Samsung, Food Industry and even stark industry.

Why?

Because all these companies needs logistics to run at the background.
You might be in charge of planning, meaning help the firm plan how much to buy, when need to restock etc.Now you might be thinking, ah! thats all? Well of course not.

The higher level will be taking charge at international or regional level for your coy

what is the job prospects of a logistics cert?

One of my cousins had graduated with a logistics and supply management degree. And he is working as a planner/purchase officer in an engineering firm. Previously he graduated with a poly engineering diploma.

probably TS wants something safe? i study this major because i wanted to be employ-able. Hahaha. Look around, what other jobs allow you to switch freely into the industry, and yet is always in demand?Only supply chain.

If i were a banker, can i go into engineering or chemistry?

why does ts want to study logistics/ supply chain in the first place?

IT ...... and what happened? FT invades in our own IT talent becomes 2nd class citizen. If a job is too free which can be switched around easily, it becomes a easy target to FT!!!!!

Hi bro,
i reckon what you have mention. However that is only true to a certain extent for LOGISTICS / SUPPLY CHAIN industry.

Remember i mention that the trainings and lessons you are going to go through for Supply Chain is very intense and specialized? It's easier for you to switch job (within the industry but not designation or nature of the field) and the skill is pretty specialized.

You obviously had the idea like normal management people who thinks that IT is very generalised. :).

IT is in fact very specialised. Those who are trained in Database might not understand network. Those who are trained in Networking might not understand applications. Those who are trained in applications might not understand software engineering and so on.

However, to the management, as long as you have a IT degree, you probably knows everything. To the management, as long as you have a SCM degree, you probably knows every part of Supply Chain from Source management down to the retail shelf.

Why do you think being in a scm role allows u to switch freely within the industry?

Hi blurbloco, allow me to apologize for the stereotyping thought. Thanks for sharing this invaluable piece of information with me as prior to your reply, i really thought it works that way.

Supply chain covers one of the widest spectrum in the field. It spans from Planning to Operating , to Transporting to Outsourcing to Purchasing. It can even go as deep as into raw materials data collecting , and perhaps risk management (as we are thought on SWOT analysis).

TS, if you have the passion for this or is in need of a job that can allow you to probably jump within 1 or 2 years and still land on another job, i think this is your thing.

For me, i have always like to specialized.

No apology required. Most people thought of it as that way as well. In fact, I had once thought the same with SCM, that is until I was involved in ERP projects which I learn a lot about other spectrum of work including Customer Driven supply chains, Market distribution strategies, differences between logistic and supply chain and so on.

Anyway, to the TS, following are some of the degrees in Singapore

SIPMM - BBA in Purchasing & Logistics Management.
PSB Academy - Bachelor in Commerce in Supply Chain Management
Curtin Singapore - Bachelor in Commerce in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
UniSim - BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Enough?

Recommended Logistics Courses

EASB seems like an underdog whereby no one knows they do offer good courses. I have friends who have graduated from there and working in a MNC company. However you may research on others as well
