Looking for a new desktop...

I'm not really a hardware tech person so if you talking about diy, it's abit out of the question for me. Do guide me along also because I know little about the types of hardware that is important for a certain type of usage.

I'm looking for a PC for video editing, Photoshop, After Effects mainly, gaming would be a bonus but it's secondary. Durability is also main thing I'm looking for and a setup best for video editing/photoshop etc. However, I'm not sure what sort of hardware to look out for (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc?)

Budget around 1.5K +-

Currently looking at a few PCs,

-Aftershock Hypergate (everything looks good except they only have i3 core, and for i5 the price is slightly on the high side) (Would prefer i7 but does it matter for editing?)

-ASUS ROG Strix GL12 (Comes with i7, reasonable price)

True, better to have 2*8GB for Dual Channel mode. Maybe you could ask for 2*8GB RAM sticks instead of 1*16 GB when you request the Bolt from Aftershock. Also, upgrade Coolermaster Q300L for extra $10. A better airflow case.

Sadly, only Zeal does offer 2*8GB in the memory option. The parts are similar but the price is a big difference. I wonder why... Zeal can fit bigger motherboards up to ATX. IF you wish to upgrade parts and reuse the case, go for NZXT H500 and config below.

*Note: Choose B360 Pro 4 Motherboard ATX for 4 RAM slots. So you may wish to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB by adding 2 more sticks in the future if you wish.

One area TS could look into would be going for NVMe M.2 as if really helps for the importing and exporting of large content into PS or PP. Of course it completely depends on the resolution and duration of your videos so decide if the additional read-write speed is worth the topup.

A word of caution to TS, considering there will be many hyenas chionging in to offer a better deal. Since TS does not want to go the DIY due to whatever reasons, it would be safer to go for the boutique route. Reason being is that your warranty will be honoured by, example: Aftershock, and there is lesser things to worry about. Going through unofficial 3rd party Builders carries risk for TS to take, and usually requires a certain degree of self diagnosis as some 3rd party Builders are only concerned with “selling” rather than actually “helping”. Whereby boutique have actual departments for diagnosis and service. Just encountered a case last week whereby a friend bought a “BN” desktop from a particular user in HWZ and after selling, the guy disappeared completely. Not all 3rd party Builders are like that, but these are the black sheep.

Erm... Psu not for you to bother as Aftershock change brand and stock from time to time, but it will be suffice for you no matter what, otherwise, you're covered with warranty so they will settle for you too nonetheless

Anyways, quite curious about the downtime for testing/troubleshooting/warranty claims for AS. Like we know for a new order its 5 weeks lead time.

Can be many reasons. Sometimes, not worth the time. Sometimes, not worth the money. Sometimes, not worth the trouble to be the first port of call when trouble arise. Sometimes, is see face whether the friend is liked enough or not.
